  • Patent number: 4728817
Abstract: A transistor drive circuit includes a driver transistor and a power switching transistor connected in a Darlington configuration which receives turn-on and turn-off signals from a drive transformer. A capacitor is provided for connection between the driver transistor base and the switching transistor emitter during a turn-off period such that the voltage on the capacitor hastens turn-off of the driver transistor and the switching transistor. A diode connected between the emitter and the base of the driver transistor provides for continuing current flow from the capacitor following turn-off of the driver transistor but prior to turn-off of the switching transistor. After the switching transistor has turned off, the capacitor is recharged prior to the presence of a turn-on signal from the drive transformer.

  • Patent number: 4434358
Abstract: An electrical resistance heater controller is provided with a plurality of circuit branches connected in parallel with each other and in series with a heating element and an external AC power source. Each circuit branch includes the series connection of a capacitor and a solid state switch. The switches are controlled by a gating device to switch during the zero crossing of the AC source voltage waveform. Power delivered to the heating element is controlled by varying the amount of series capacitance in the circuit.

  • Patent number: 4357524
Abstract: A controller system using high frequency switching by providing a bilateral switch gated on and off at a frequency about ten times the source frequency and the duty cycle determined by pulse width modulation of the high frequency waveform in accordance with window heater temperature.

  • Patent number: 4342076
Abstract: A transistor current sensing circuit is provided for a power output transistor whose drive circuit includes a current controlled feedback transformer that has a current limited direct current source connected to the secondary winding of the transformer wherein the change in voltage level of the secondary winding upon the completion of turn-off of the output transistor is used as a signal to initiate turn-on of another associated transistor.
