  • Patent number: 7547192
Abstract: A turbine bucket includes a shank portion, an adjacent and radially inner dovetail mounting portion, an adjacent and radial outer airfoil portion, with a platform at a radially inner end of said airfoil portion adjacent the shank portion, and an integral cover at a radially outer tip of the airfoil portion, wherein the shank portion is shaped to provide a torque zone establishing a desired torque characteristic for the bucket to create, upon insertion into a dovetail groove on a turbine wheel, a desired contact pressure between the integral cover and adjacent covers in a row of similar buckets.

  • Patent number: 7318699
Abstract: Covers on bucket tips are provided with an access slot along a circumferentially facing edge of the cover at a location where moisture removal grooves of the bucket will intersect with the cover. Machine tooling is then applied to form the grooves along the suction side and adjacent the leading of the bucket. The machining runs out through the access slot forming grooves along the side edge of the bucket cover within the slot. The axial extent of the covers overlying leading and trailing edges of the buckets is maintained while enabling moisture removal by centrifugal action.

  • Patent number: 6648540
Abstract: A locating plate for locating a first piece of rotary machinery relative to a second piece of rotary machinery is provided. The plate has a first periphery surface for mating with a first receiving surface of the first piece of rotary machinery and a second periphery surface for mating with a second receiving surface of the second piece of rotary machinery. The plate also has at least one attaching device for use in attaching the plate to the first piece of rotary machinery and at least one removal device for use in removing the plate from the first piece of rotary machinery. The plate is removably attachable to the second piece of rotary machinery, and the second periphery surface is sizable independently from the first periphery surface.

  • Patent number: 6158104
Abstract: An assembly jig is provided for pre-twisting or rotating the closure blade prior to driving the closure blade into the notch opening at the completion of bucket assembly. In a preferred embodiment, the assembly jig is composed of three clamp assemblies, each mounted to the integral cover of the circumferentially adjacent buckets of the notch group. Each clamp assembly includes first and second axially aligned clamp brackets that are clamped the respective integral cover. The closure blade is pre-twisted or rotated by adjusting the gaps between the adjacent clamp brackets and hence the gaps between the axial ends of the closure blade cover and the axial ends of the adjacent auxiliary bucket cover(s) respectively clamped thereto. The force necessary to rotate the closure blade cover may be generated with jacking bolts that extend generally tangentially of the row of buckets, between the adjacent clamp brackets.
