Patent number: 6758207Abstract: A gas-fired cooking device includes a braising cavity defined on its lower side by a heated surface. A more uniform heating of the heated surface is provided by a plurality of heating chambers disposed below the heated surface, with each of the heating chambers heated by at least one naturally fed gas burner. A portion of the hot combustion gases rise into upper zones associated with each heating chamber that have relatively low average front-to-back air flow therein. The upper zones have sidewalls and downwardly extending dam walls that cooperate to create the low flow zones beneath the heated surface. The relatively low flow rates within the low flow zones allow a more uniform layer of hot combustion gases to be formed along the underside of the heated surface, thereby more evenly delivering heat to the heated surface. There may be two or more such heating chambers.Type: GrantFiled: April 4, 2003Date of Patent: July 6, 2004Assignee: Middleby-Marshall, Inc.Inventors: Thomas C. Hotard, Joseph Mark Suchecki

Patent number: 6421050Abstract: An interface is useful in browsing output vectors resulting from applying a transfer function to input data. The interface allows a user to explore effects of different parameter settings which make up the transfer function, particularly in connection with computer-generated and computer-modified images. The interface includes two portions, a central display panel and a surrounding area of a plurality of image displays. Thumbnail sketches of images corresponding to each of the output vectors are located in the central display panel to represent the relationships between the output vectors. The output vectors are processed to determine distances between them, and the distances are then projected to the two-dimensional display of the central display panel. The central display panel can be controlled to pan and zoom the display to review the thumbnail sketches. The user can then select different thumbnail sketches so that full-sized images are displayed in the plurality of image displays.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1997Date of Patent: July 16, 2002Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories, Inc.Inventors: Wheeler Ruml, Joseph Marks, Kathleen Ryall, Stuart Merrill Shieber

Patent number: 6315361Abstract: A system for adjusting and dumping the position of a seat, such as a vehicle passenger or driver's seat, utilizes simultaneously translating master and slave adjustment rods to pivot the seat back frame about a pivot point. Each adjustment rod is locked in a passenger pre-set position by a corresponding locking mechanism. This preset position is “remembered” by way of a marker selectively engaged to the master adjustment rod, and is restored when the marker resides within a marker dock affixed to the locking mechanism. A user adjustment input is operable to release the two locking mechanisms and the marker from the corresponding rods so that the rods can freely translate as the passenger adjusts the angle of inclination of the seat back. When the adjustment input is released, the locking mechanisms and marker re-engage to provide the memory function for the system.Type: GrantFiled: April 24, 2000Date of Patent: November 13, 2001Assignee: Porter Engineered Systems.Inventors: Joseph Mark Stone, Donald T. Patent number: 5966131Abstract: A system for generating a set of graphical images based upon application of different graphical transfer functions to data of physical structures in a scene. The application of the different graphical transfer functions define graphical images of a single scene having different characteristics. A user can then review the images to select a desirable image, without having to define or know the graphical transfer function which generates the image. The system of the present invention generates a dispersed set of output vectors representing characteristics of the set of images based upon a transfer function. The system creates the dispersed set by generating a random set of output vectors and then randomly perturbing one. The perturbed vector replaces one of the other vectors if the replacement results in a more dispersed set. The process is repeated until a thoroughly dispersed set of output vectors has been obtained.Type: GrantFiled: February 27, 1997Date of Patent: October 12, 1999Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Center America, Inc. Patent number: 5936638Abstract: A system generates and arranges animation sequences of articulated characs for review and selection by a user. Motion of articulated characters is based upon input parameters, such as torques at joints of the character. The system can be used to select appropriate parameters to obtain desirable motion of the articulated characters. The system generates a set of input vectors containing parameters of the motion. The input parameters are then processed to determine animation sequences and corresponding output vectors. The output vectors include characteristics of the motion. The input vectors are selected to provide a dispersed set of output vectors. A large number of random input vectors can be generated and then culled to leave a dispersed set of output vectors. Alternatively, a set of randomly generated input vectors of a predetermined size are randomly perturbed, to further disperse the output vectors.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 1997Date of Patent: August 10, 1999Assignee: Mitsubishi Electric Information Technology Center America, Inc.
