The inventive compositions provide control of sebum secretion from sebocytes, improved oil control and improved skin feel, prevent shine and stickiness, while also providing anti-aging benefits which results in reduced appearance of wrinkles and aged skin, improved skin color, treatment of photoaged skin, improvement in skin's radiance and clarity and finish, and an overall healthy and youthful appearance of the skin.

The product is a strip including a flexible substrate sheet onto which a composition containing an adhesive polymer is deposited. The composition is essentially a polymer of anionic, cationic, nonionic, amphoteric or zwitterionic variety which increases in tackiness upon being wetted, with wetting occurring just prior to application onto the skin thereby enhancing the composition's adhesivity. Skin agents delivered through the adhesive strip include vitamins, herbal extracts, alpha- and beta-hydroxycarboxylic acids, ceramides, anti-inflammatories, antimicrobials, vasoconstrictors, zinc salts and mixtures thereof. The strips are sealably enclosed within a pouch for purposes of moisture protection.

Abstract: Methoxycinnamyloxy salicylate and method of its preparation is described. Methoxycinnamyloxy salicylate is useful in skin care compositions, to improve the appearance of the skin.

Abstract: A novel series of phytosphingosines are disclosed which are phytosphingosine salicylates having use in cosmetic compositions. They have potential as anti-acne, anti-blemish, anti-bacterial and anti-wrinkle agents, as well as being active in skin lightening.

Abstract: An opacified cosmetic emulsion composition is provided containing an inorganic particulate substance as the opacifier, a surfactant, and a hydroxy functionalized wax to stabilize the emulsion against separation/precipitation of its components. Particularly preferred as the wax are trihydroxystearin and 5ceramides.

Abstract: A method and composition is provided for treating skin conditions including those arising from dermatologic disorders, chronoaging and environmental abuse. Non-ring esterified C.sub.11 -C.sub.30 alkyl or alkenyl esters of salicylic acid in combination with a retinol C.sub.18 -C.sub.30 fatty acid ester used as the active components are applied to the skin in a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier. Most preferred as the salicylate ester is tridecyl salicylate and as the retinol fatty acid ester is retinyl linoleate.

Abstract: Gugulipid (a lipophilic ethyl acetate extract from C. mukul or C. wightii) and an alcoholic fraction of gugulipid as antisebum and/or antioxidant active in cosmetic skin care compositions and methods is disclosed. Gugulipid from C. mukul and its alcoholic fraction are capable of delivering dual benefit to the skin: controlling or preventing sebum secretion (oily skin conditions) and protecting the skin from free radical damage.
