  • Patent number: 8629939
Abstract: Described embodiments provide for detection and selection by the user of a ticker region within a first video broadcast; and copying and overlaying the detected and selected ticker region over a second video broadcast. Motion estimation techniques are employed to identify the ticker region location and associated borders of the ticker region. The streaming video corresponding to the ticker region is buffered. Some embodiments allow for post-processing of the overlayed ticker region to, for example, eliminate artifacts of, match resolution to, and match aspect ratio of the overlayed ticker region to the second video broadcast.

  • Patent number: 8165180
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention include a laser structure having a delta doped active region for improved carrier confinement. The laser structure includes an n-type cladding layer, an n-type waveguide layer formed adjacent the n-type cladding layer, an active region formed adjacent the n-type waveguide layer, a p-type waveguide layer formed adjacent the active region, and a p-type cladding layer formed adjacent the p-type waveguide layer. The laser structure is configured so that a p-type dopant concentration increases across the active region from the n-type side of the active region to the p-type side of the active region and/or an n-type dopant concentration decreases across the active region from the n-type side of the active region to the p-type side of the active region. The delta doped active region provides improved carrier confinement, while eliminating the need for blocking layers, thereby reducing stress on the active region caused thereby.

  • Patent number: 7772085
Abstract: A manufacturing method, in which two device bars are bonded prior to facet coating to form a stacked bar pair. In one embodiment, each of the device bars has a p-side and an n-side, each side having a plurality of bonding pads, with at least some bonding pads located at the p-side of the first device bar adapted for mating with the corresponding bonding pads located at the p-side of the second device bar. Solder material deposited onto the p-side bonding pads adapted for mating is liquefied in a reflow oven, wherein surface tension of the liquefied solder self-aligns the device bars with respect to each other and keeps them in alignment until the solder is solidified to form a solder bond between the mated bonding pads. Two or more instances of the bonded bar pair are further stacked such that bonding pads located at the n-sides of adjacent bar pairs are mated in a relatively tight fit.

  • Patent number: 7637414
Abstract: An integrated circuit is wire bonded in a manner such that there is consistent RF performance from integrated circuit package to integrated circuit package. Bond distances within the integrated circuit are measured, each corresponding to a wire bond to be formed. An area under a hypothetical wire bond profile is calculated as a function of the bond distances, a baseline wire length, and a baseline loop height. A wire is bonded across a given one of the bond distances to form a given one of the wire bonds. A wire bond profile for the given wire bond is provided having an area thereunder that is substantially equal to the calculated area.
