Publication number: 20220381624Abstract: One or more implementations of the present disclosure relate to a wireless, multi-sensor food thermometer that includes a temperature probe having a linear array of temperature sensors that are operative to measure: temperature profiles within a food product during a cooking process, a temperature at a core of the food product, a temperature at the surface of the food product, and a temperature of the ambient cooking environment in which the food is being cooked. The temperature probe includes a wireless interface that transmits temperature information to one or more external devices for use thereby. Rather than transmitting raw temperature data, the temperature probe may transmit coefficients that correspond to a function that describes the temperature profile within the food or parameters necessary to solve a governing heat equation, which reduces data transmission requirements and reduces power consumption.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 4, 2022Publication date: December 1, 2022Inventors: Christopher Young, Levi Miller, George Harris, Joseph Modro

Patent number: 8081122Abstract: A slotted monopole wideband antenna, comprising an insulating rectangular chip mounted on a carrier substrate, said carrier substrate including a feeding structure, and said chip comprising a first side adjacent to said feeding structure, a feed point of the antenna is located near said first side. An electrically conducting lamina is folded over four faces of said insulating chip, said lamina being connected to the feed point at one end, and to ground at another end. At least two slots are formed in an upper section of said folded lamina, said slots having the effect of lowering the principal resonance of said antenna, thereby providing a miniaturized antenna suitable for integration in a mobile wireless communications handset.Type: GrantFiled: June 10, 2009Date of Patent: December 20, 2011Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: David Kearney, Joseph Modro

Patent number: 7528676Abstract: A balun including a single-ended port, a differential port and first and second sets of coupled transmission line sections. Each set has three coupled transmission line sections. The signal carrying terminal of the single-ended port is connected to an inner end of a third coupled transmission line sections in one of the sets, and the terminals of the differential port are connected to a respective outer end of a respective first transmission line. The balun is fabricated in a multi-layer insulating substrate with the single-ended port located on an upper surface of the substrate and the differential port located on a lower surface of the substrate. The balun is suitable for connection to a chip antenna mounted on a common carrier substrate.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 2007Date of Patent: May 5, 2009Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Brian Kearns, Denver Humphrey, Joseph Modro

Patent number: 7274334Abstract: An antenna structure having a ground plane, a feed line and at least one resonator element that is embedded in a dielectric substrate and which is meandering in shape such that it includes at least two adjacent resonator segments. As a result, the resonator element resonates in two separate frequency bands. A second resonator element is provided, the second resonator element being dimensioned to resonate in a frequency band below a third operating frequency band, the feed line and ground plane being arranged to cause a resonance in a frequency band located above the third operating frequency band. During use, the combined effect of the resonance of the second resonator element and of the feed line and ground plane is to cause the antenna structure to resonate in the third operating frequency band.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 2005Date of Patent: September 25, 2007Assignee: TDK CorporationInventors: Pauline O'Riordan, Joseph Modro

Publication number: 20060214850Abstract: An antenna structure comprising a ground plane, a feed line and at least one resonator element that is embedded in a dielectric substrate and which is meandering in shape such that it includes at least two adjacent resonator segments. As a result, the resonator element resonates in two separate frequency bands. A second resonator element is preferably provided, the second resonator element being dimensioned to resonate in a frequency band located on one side of a third operating frequency band, the feed line and ground plane being arranged to cause a resonance in a frequency band located on the other side of the third operating frequency band. During use, the combined effect of the resonance of the second resonator element and of the feed line and ground plane is to cause the antenna structure to resonate in the third operating frequency band.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 24, 2005Publication date: September 28, 2006Applicant: TDK CORPORATIONInventors: Pauline O'Riordan, Joseph Modro

Publication number: 20050248488Abstract: An antenna comprising a lamina of conductive material, the antenna being operable in one or more resonant operational modes in which at least one portion of the antenna is associated with an relatively high electromagnetic field and in which at least one other portion of the antenna is associated with a relatively low or substantially no electromagnetic field. The lamina is folded on itself so that said at least one portion of the antenna lies on an obverse face of the antenna and said at least one other portion of the antenna lies on the reverse face of the antenna. In one embodiment, the antenna is a slot-loop antenna. In a second embodiment, the antenna acts as a quarter wave monopole.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 29, 2005Publication date: November 10, 2005Applicant: TDK CorporationInventor: Joseph Modro
