Patent number: 7530729Abstract: A material transfer device, in particular for use with blenders associated with a material processing device such as a plastics extruding device. The material transfer device can be used for controlling delivery of measured amounts of particulate material to or from a weigh hopper, or for mixing materials in a mixing chamber of the blender. The material transfer device includes a pipe defining a material delivery path. The pipe has a material inlet and a material outlet. An air inlet manifold encircling the pipe is connected by an air supply line to a pressurized air supply. Air outlets of the manifold direct an air stream towards the outlet of the pipe to draw material through the pipe from a hopper of particulate material, the pipe inlet being located within the hopper. An air inlet valve in the air supply line is connected to a controller which is operable to open and shut the valve for pulsing the gas stream to control the amount of material delivered through the pipe.Type: GrantFiled: July 18, 2007Date of Patent: May 12, 2009Assignee: Vervant LimitedInventor: James Joseph O'Callaghan

Publication number: 20030081495Abstract: The invention relates to a material transfer device (1), in particular for use with blenders associated with a material processing device such as a plastics extruding device. The material transfer device (1) can be used for controlling delivery of measured amounts of particulate material to or from a weigh hopper, or for mixing materials in a mixing chamber of the blender. The material transfer device (1) includes a pipe (2) defining a material delivery path. The pipe (2) has a material inlet (4) and a material outlet (5). An air inlet manifold (10) encircling the pipe (2) is connected by an air supply line (14) to a pressurised air supply. Air outlets (12) of the manifold (10) direct an air stream towards the outlet (5) of the pipe (2) to draw material through the pipe (2) from a hopper (6) of particulate material (7), the pipe inlet (4) being located within the hopper (6).Type: ApplicationFiled: October 7, 2002Publication date: May 1, 2003Inventor: James Joseph O'Callaghan

Patent number: 6203184Abstract: A blender for delivery of blend additives to a plastics extrusion device has a mixing chamber for reception of materials to be blended. Batches of blend materials are delivered to the mixing chamber from material supply bins via a weight hopper. Within the mixing chamber, a mixing screw circulates and mixes the blend materials prior to discharge through an outlet to an extrusion process line. As material is discharged, a material level sensor is uncovered and calls for a further batch of blend materials to be discharged from the weigh hopper into the mixing chamber. The screw has a pair of mixing blades of opposed pitch to direct material inwardly from outer ends of the screw towards a center of the screw located above the outlet. Excess material above process demand requirements is delivered to the outlet by the screw. This excess material is directed upwardly away from the outlet and recirculated towards outer ends of the screw and remixed without material within the mixing chamber.Type: GrantFiled: June 15, 1998Date of Patent: March 20, 2001Assignee: Vervant LimitedInventor: James Joseph O'Callaghan

Patent number: 6155709Abstract: A blending apparatus has a primary additive feed hopper and secondary additive feed hoppers suspended from load cells on a support frame. Additive materials are delivered from the hoppers to a discharge chute for delivery to a material processing device such as a plastics extrusion device. A controller associated with the blending apparatus monitors the throughput of process material in the extrusion device and the discharge rate of additives from the hoppers and controls the process material throughput for controlling blending of the feed additives with the process material.Type: GrantFiled: September 11, 1996Date of Patent: December 5, 2000Assignee: Vervant LimitedInventor: James Joseph O'Callaghan

Patent number: 5524254Abstract: The present invention provides an interlock scheme for use between a line card and an address recognition apparatus. The interlock scheme reduces the total number of read/write operations over a backplane bus coupling the line card to the address recognition apparatus required to complete a request/response transfer. Thus, the line card and address recognition apparatus are able to perform a large amount of request/response transfers with a high level of system efficiency. Generally, the interlocking scheme according to the present invention merges each ownership information storage location into the location of the request/response memory utilized to store the corresponding request/response pair to reduce data transfer traffic over the backplane bus. According to another feature of the interlock scheme of the present invention, each of the line card and the address recognition engine includes a table for storing information relating to a plurality of database specifiers.Type: GrantFiled: July 1, 1994Date of Patent: June 4, 1996Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventors: Fearghal Morgan, Joseph O'Callaghan, Michael J. Seaman, John Rigby, Andrew Walton, Una M. Quinlan, Stewart F. Bryant

Patent number: 5519858Abstract: The present invention is directed to an address recognition apparatus including an address recognition engine coupled to a look-up database. The look-up database is arranged to store network information relating to network addresses. The look-up database includes a primary database and a secondary database. The address recognition engine accepts as an input a network address for which network information is required. The address recognition engine uses the network address as an index to the primary database. The primary database comprises a multiway tree node structure (TRIE) arranged for traversal of the nodes as a function of preselected segments of the network address and in a fixed sequence of the segments to locate a pointer to an entry in the secondary database. The entry in the secondary database pointed to by the primary database pointer contains the network information corresponding to the network address. The address recognition engine includes a table for storing a plurality of database specifiers.Type: GrantFiled: January 10, 1992Date of Patent: May 21, 1996Assignee: Digital Equipment CorporationInventors: Andrew Walton, Una M.
