Abstract: A system for a vehicle is provided. The system includes a door of the vehicle moveable about a pivot axis between an open position and a closed position. The system also includes a power actuator operable in one of a powered and a not powered. The power actuator is configured to move the door to a partially open position between the open position and the closed position in the powered mode and not move the door in the not powered mode. The pivot axis is selected to ensure the door remains at the partially open position whereat the door does not move towards the open position nor the closed position under an effect of gravity in response to the power actuator being in the not powered mode and the vehicle being on a surface being substantially level.

Abstract: An actuator system for a closure panel of a vehicle and method of operation are provided. The system includes a biasing member adapted to apply a biasing member force to the closure panel. The system also includes an actuator assembly comprising an actuator housing. The actuator assembly also includes a motor disposed in the actuator housing and configured to rotate a motor shaft operably coupled to an extensible member coupled to one of a body and the closure panel for opening or closing the closure panel. The system also includes an actuator controller configured to control the motor to output an adjusted force based on the biasing member force to move the closure panel.

Abstract: A system for detecting an obstacle between a closure panel and a body of a vehicle, comprising: an actuator for moving the closure panel from a partially closed position to a closed position; a sensor for sensing a position of the closure panel between the partially closed and the closed position; and a controller for receiving position signals from the sensor and for controlling operation of the actuator; wherein the controller is adapted to inhibit moving of the closure panel when the sensor detects an improper change in the position of the closure panel during operation of the actuator.
