  • Patent number: 4917131
Abstract: A compact or container has a base member defining a receptacle, a cover hingedly connected to the base member for pivotal movement from closed to open position and vice versa, and an insert assembly connected on the receptacle in the base member has, a flange and at least one storage compartment therein for cosmetics or other materials, a catch having an inwardly inclined outer face is formed on the insert assembly, a latch having an inwardly inclined inner face is formed on the cover and is disposed in mating engagement with the catch when the cover is pivoted to the closed position, and a front release assembly is slidably mounted in a cut-out section in the base member and includes a resilient coacting member to permit reciprocable movement thereof, the said front release has an inclined surface disposed to engage the latch to release the latch from engagement with the catch so that the cover member can be moved to open position.

  • Patent number: 4863034
Abstract: A container for powder, cosmetics and other materials has a base member having an interior wall defining a sized and shaped storage tray receptacle, a closure member pivotally connected to the base member is movable from open to closed position and vice versa. A sized and shaped storage tray is disposed to fit into the storage tray receptacle in the base member, and at least one retainer assembly formed on the storage tray and wall means of the base member including, a manually operable yieldable section to enable the storage tray to be removable fixed in assembled position in the base member. The container as above described including spaced compartments in the storage tray for powder, cosmetics and other materials and an applicator for use therewith.

  • Patent number: 4693392
Abstract: A spring latch, hinge and boss assembly for closure members generally on containers such as compacts for powder and other cosmetics includes, spaced hinge elements on one peripheral side of the closure or cover member and base member to permit pivotal movement of the closure or cover member from open to closed position and vice versa relative to the base member and a boss member disposed between the hinge elements so that a force must be exerted on the closure member during closing movement. The materials of the boss member are harder than the material for the closure member and the base member. The boss member is constructed with a designed resistance to closing and to opening of the closure member relative to the base member. Alternatively and selectively and even though made of a harder material the boss can be designed so that in assembled position it can be rigid and non-yielding or can flex depending on the materials selected for the closure member, base member and boss and the shape of the boss member.

  • Patent number: 4518092
Abstract: A single integrally injection molded container or compact made of any suitable thermoplastic synthetic polymer composition material has an elongated base assembly which defines a storage compartment and a fully enclosed side compartment in general alignment and communication therewith. A cover is pivotally connected to the base assembly by a first living hinge and is movable from an open position to overlie and close the storage compartment in the base assembly, an end closure is pivotally connected to the base assembly by a second living hinge and is movable from an open position to close the end of the side compartment remote from the storage compartment, the side compartment is provided with bracket means to hold a brush or applicator and when the cover is in the closed position an aligned opening permits the holder of the brush or applicator to extend into and to overlie the storage compartment to enable the brush or applicator to be stored in the container when not in use.

  • Patent number: 4454889
Abstract: A compact or container having an air or fluid tight seal for holding, storing or packaging ultra-moist powders, pulverulent material and water based cosmetics, and paste type materials such as creams and emulsions includes, a resilient generally flat leaf type member so fixed and cantilevered in assembled position on the base portion of the compact or container that the raised peripherial edge thereon can coact with the inner face of the closure member to form the desired air or fluid tight seal thereon.

  • Patent number: 4345607
Abstract: A spring latch and hinge assembly for closure members generally on containers such as compacts for powder and other cosmetics includes spaced hinge elements on one peripheral side of the closure or cover member and base members to permit pivotal movement of the closure or cover member from open to closed position relative the base member and resilient elements alternatively on the base member or the closure member whose resilience is a function of the coefficient of elasticity of the materials from which the closure or cover member and base member are made; said resilient elements disposed between the spaced hinge members and constructed with a designed resistance to closing which compresses the resilient element and establishes a predetermined expansion force therein to resist opening of the closure or cover member from the closed position. The closing and opening movement of the closure member produces an audible clicking sound by the resilient elements.
