  • Patent number: 6462478
Abstract: A safety switch for a lamp having an outer envelope with a light source capsule mounted therein. The lamp has a base for connection to an electrical circuit via a mating socket and has in-leads appropriately connected to the base and to the light source capsule whereby electrical power can be supplied to the light source. A fuse is operatively mounted to one of the in-leads in the base. The safety switch is mounted in the outer envelope and tensioned thereagainst whereby breakage of the outer envelope causes the safety switch to release and electrically contact the in-leads causing a short circuit and opening the fuse, thereby removing power from the capsule.

  • Patent number: 6147444
Abstract: A lamp such as a PAR lamp is provided wherein a metal base shell is attached to a neck portion of a reflector by three or more peens which extend into respective peen holes. In a preferred embodiment, respective of the peen holes are located (a) at opposite regions of the neck portion and (b) on opposite sides of a medial plane of the neck portion. The peen holes of such embodiment extend into the neck portion in a direction other than radially towards the axis which forms the centerline of the neck portion.

  • Patent number: 6147440
Abstract: A reflector lamp 10 has a vitreous outer envelope 12 formed of a concave reflector 14 and a light-transmitting 16 cover peripherally sealed thereto. The concave reflector and cover are symmetrically arrayed about a longitudinal axis 18 and a substantially cylindrical, hollow neck 20 having a given depth is affixed to the concave reflector opposite the cover. The neck 20 also is symmetrically arrayed about the longitudinal axis 18 and has a substantially closed bottom 21. At least two eyelets, 22, 24, respectively, are sealed in the bottom 21 and a light source capsule 26 is positioned in the concave reflector and aligned with the longitudinal axis 18. The light source capsule 26 has a first end 28 situated in the neck 20 and a second end 30 extending into the concave reflector. The light source capsule 26 comprises a quartz arc tube 32 containing an arc generating and sustaining medium and a surrounding aluminosilicate glass shroud 34.

  • Patent number: 6086227
Abstract: A lamp with a faceted spiral reflector and a spiral faceted lens is disclosed. The lamp with spiral reflector and spiral lens yields a smooth circular beam pattern with a perceived sharp beam edge. The source image is well dispersed, and the beam illumination is visually smooth.

  • Patent number: 6078128
Abstract: An electric lamp with an enclosed lamp capsule has reduced production manufacturing losses when manufactured with a split eyelet used to duct a lead through the lamp housing. The elongated tube portion of the eyelet has either thinned wall sections or splits formed along the tube axis. When the rivet is set, the tube wall distorts or gives way along the weakened axially lines. The housing glass is then not fractured during riveting, and after riveting the thermal expansion and contraction of the glass with respect to the rivet results in decreased pressure on the glass. The lamp with a split eyelet yields a higher percentage of lamps surviving the manufacturing process, and having fewer cracks or other rivet induced defects in final products.

  • Patent number: 5600198
Abstract: There is disclosed an electric lamp assembly with a threaded base, the assembly including a lamp envelope, a threaded base, and a light source. The electric lamp with threaded base includes portions of the threaded base positioned in concavities formed on a tubular end of the lamp envelope. No melt junction, and no glues are needed in coupling the envelope and base. The coupling is strong enough to resist decoupling by hand and grows stronger with time.

  • Patent number: 5308273
Abstract: A method of making an electric lamp with high torque threaded base having lamp envelope, threaded base, and light source is disclosed. The electric lamp with high torque threaded base may be formed by making a lamp envelope with a ring of depressions extending around the lamp opening. A threaded brass base may then be rolled into the depressions, locking the threaded base to the lamp envelope. High temperature melting of the glass is then unnecessary, and expensive, or messy glues are unnecessary.
