  • Patent number: 5232053
Abstract: An explosion protection system including a container adapted to contain an explosion suppressant under pressure and defining a discharge outlet; a primary storage volume, and an auxiliary storage volume disposed between the discharge outlet and the primary storage volume and communicating therewith; a closure member covering the discharge outlet; an explosive charge disposed in the container adjacent to the closure member and adapted to create explosive forces that rupture the closure member; and a dispersible explosion suppressant retained under pressure in the primary storage volume and having a given degree of compressibility. Also included is an explosive force transmitting agent filling the auxiliary storage volume and having a degree of compressibility less than the given degree.

  • Patent number: 4637473
Abstract: A fire suppression system including a housing for receiving particulate matter and defining an inlet opening and an outlet opening, an input duct connected to the inlet opening, an air mover for forcing air through the input duct into the housing and out of the outlet openings, and filter means disposed in the housing and sealed between the inlet opening and the outlet opening so as to remove in the housing the particulate matter entrained by air entering through the inlet opening. Also included are an inlet sensor providing an inlet output signal dependent on the inlet temperature of combined gas and particulate matter entering the housing through the inlet opening, an outlet sensor providing a discharge output signal dependent on the outlet temperature of air discharged through the outlet opening, and a difference circuit receiving the inlet and discharge output signals and providing a difference signal in response to a predetermined minimum difference therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4487266
Abstract: An explosion suppression system disposed externally of a structure that encloses a protected zone. The system includes a source of pressurized explosion suppressant, a pressure detector, a release mechanism for releasing the suppressant through a discharge port opening into the protected zone in response to detection of a pressure wave by the detector, and tubulation providing fluid communication between the detector and the protected zone. An inclined portion of the tubulation terminates with an intake port and comprises both vertical and horizontal components of substantial magnitude.
