  • Patent number: 6476297
Abstract: A novel meiosis-specific gene sequence from Arabidopsis thaliana including the promoter region is described. When operably linked to a heterologous gene or to the antisense of the MEI1 gene, the normal meiotic events which give rise to viable pollen can be altered. Transgenic male sterile plants can thereby be produced by the manipulation of gene expression using a genetic regulatory element such as the one described herein.
