  • Patent number: 4493679
Abstract: An endless power transmission belt construction and a method of making the same are provided, the belt construction comprising an endless flexible carrier and a plurality of transverse belt elements assembled on the carrier, each belt element having a peripheral face and a medial slot passing therethrough and receiving part of the carrier therein. Each belt element has a slit in the peripheral face thereof that leads to the slot thereof and a hinge spaced from the slit thereof that permits the belt element to have the slit thereof opened sufficiently to permit at least part of the carrier to be received therethrough for subsequent positioning in the slot thereof and thereafter be moved to a closed position to prevent at least that part of the carrier from escaping through the slit. Each belt element has two adjacent surfaces defining the slit thereof therebetween.

  • Patent number: 4443281
Abstract: A method of making an arched endless belt and belt made employing the method are provided wherein the method comprises the steps of disposing in tubular form a plurality of uncured belt-defining layers with the layers being adapted to define corresponding sections of the belt and curing the layers in a controlled environment to define the belt having a longitudinal axis and an arched configuration relative to the axis wherein prior to the disposing step the method comprises wrapping a shaping material consisting of an uncured gum material around a belt building device and the disposing step comprises wrapping the plurality of layers against the shaping material so that during the curing step the shaping material and controlled environment cooperate to define the arched configuration of the belt including all of its layers and during the curing step the shaping material is bonded to the layers and comprises an inner portion of the belt with the cured gum shaping material serving as a crack barrier for such inn

  • Patent number: 4255147
Abstract: A wrapped, molded belt, and a method for making the same, are provided wherein the belt has a cover made from cord fabric. The angle of the strength cords of the cord fabric is different from the angle of the cords on the sides of the belt. The belt is produced by wrapping a desired width of cord fabric around a belt body, skewing the cords a desired amount and in a desired direction, depending upon which face of the belt body is being covered, and finally, curing the belt.

  • Patent number: 4169393
Abstract: An endless power transmission belt, method of making same, and drive system using same are provided wherein such belt has a portion which has a plurality of spaced belt elements defined by alternating projections and recesses and a triaxial fabric bonded against the elements which defines an abrasion-resistant exposed surface of the elements with the triaxial fabric also minimizing shearing stresses in each element due to the isotropic character of such fabric which provides improved load distribution therethrough as well as improved tear resistance thereof. The belt may have elements in the form of load-transmitting teeth with the triaxial fabric having three sets of yarn courses in which one of the three sets is substantially protected by the two other yarn sets and the one yarn set provides reinforcement of the teeth after substantial wear of the two other yarn sets resulting in an increased service life for the belt.
