  • Publication number: 20030157900
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are presented for improving the feedback of channel information to a serving base station, which allows a reduction in the reverse link load while allowing the base station to improve the forward link data throughput. Over a channel quality indicator channel, three subchannels are generated; the re-synch subchannel, the differential feedback subchannel, and the transition indicator subchannel. The information carried on each subchannel can be used separately or together by a base station to selectively update internal registers storing channel conditions. The channel conditions are used to determine transmission formats, power levels, and data rates of forward link transmissions.

  • Publication number: 20030152051
Abstract: A novel and improved method and apparatus for high rate CDMA wireless communication is described. A set of individually gain adjusted subscriber channels are formed via the use of a set of orthogonal subchannel codes. The set of sub-channel codes are comprised of four Walsh codes. The pilot data and control data are combined onto one channel. The remaining two transmit channels are used for transmitting non-specified digital data including user data or signaling data, or both.

  • Patent number: 6603751
Abstract: A method for minimizing search time and disruption of current service on an originating frequency during a frequency search excursion to a target frequency as part of an inter-frequency hard handoff between cells on different RF CDMA channels. In one embodiment, the method for minimizing search time includes tuning a selected mobile station to a target frequency and collecting chip samples, which are stored in a memory buffer, but not performing pilot searches and pilot strength measurements while on the target frequency; tuning the selected mobile station back to the original frequency and simultaneously resuming reception of forward link and transmission of reverse link and processing the samples collected on the target frequency to calculate pilot strength measurements from the target frequency.

  • Publication number: 20030128680
Abstract: Demodulation of a received high rate CDMA wireless signal is obtained by filtering a complex received signal to provide a complex pilot filter signal. The complex pilot filter signal is then use to phase-adjust a set of demodulated subscriber channel signals.

  • Patent number: 6587446
Abstract: A mobile station transmits a plurality of channels including a pilot channel and at least one information channel. In the exemplary embodiment, the base station determines the adequacy of the transmission energy of the reverse link signal in accordance with the received energy of the reverse link pilot signal. In the present invention, the pilot channel transmission power is retained at the level it was prior to the frequency search excursion, while increasing the transmission energy of at least one other channel transmitted by the mobile station. In addition, when the mobile station is not capable of increasing the transmission energy of all of the information channels, the mobile station generates a ranking of the importance of the different information channels and selectively increases the transmission power of those channels.

  • Publication number: 20030108088
Abstract: A novel and improved method for implementing a high-transmission-rate over-the-air interface is described. A transmit system provides an in-phase channel set and a quadrature-phase channel set. The in-phase channel set is used to provide a complete set of orthogonal medium rate control and traffic channels. The quadrature-phase channel set is used to provide a high-rate supplemental channel and an extended set of medium rate channels that are orthogonal to each other and the original medium rate channels. The high-rate supplemental channel is generated over a set of medium rate channels using a short channel code. The medium rate channel is generated using a set of long channel codes.

  • Publication number: 20030039235
Abstract: High rate CDMA wireless communication is obtained by forming a set of individually gain adjusted subscriber channels. Each channel has a set of orthogonal subchannel codes having a small number of PN spreading chips per orthogonal waveform period. Preferably, the set of sub-channel codes are comprised of four Walsh codes, each orthogonal to the remaining set and four chips in duration. It is also preferred that pilot data be transmitted via a first transmit channel and power control data transmitted via a second transmit channel. The remaining two transmit channels are used for transmitting non-specified digital data including user data or signaling data, or both. One of the two non-specified transmit channels may be configured for BPSK modulation and the other for QPSK modulation.

  • Publication number: 20030035389
Abstract: A Method and System for Utilization of an Outer Decoder in a Broadcast Services Communication System is described. An outer decoder and an inner decoder encode a block of information to be transmitted, to improve protection by adding redundancy. The redundancy permits decoding of the information from less than a complete encoded block of information. Consequently, the receiving station determines when sufficient amount of information for successful decoding has been received, and utilizes the time remaining before the next block of information arrives to perform other activities, e.g., hard handoff on a broadcast channel, inter-frequency hard handoff, and other activities. Alternatively, the receiving station can cease reception, thus decrease power consumption. Furthermore, part of the information block may be utilized for transmission of signaling information.

  • Publication number: 20020181546
Abstract: Rather than attaching a preamble to a data payload and transmitting both on a traffic channel, multiple preamble channels are generated so that preambles are transmitted on the multiple preamble channels and data payload is transmitted on the traffic channel. Redundant subpackets carry data payload on a traffic channel, a preamble sequence is generated and is carried on a separate preamble channel, and a preamble information value is generated and is carried on another preamble channel.

  • Patent number: 6480521
Abstract: The present invention is a novel and improved method and apparatus for transmitting high speed digital data in a spread spectrum communications system. In particular, the present invention provides methods for transmitting forward link and reverse link high speed digital data. For both forward link and reverse link transmissions, the present invention describes a method for processing the data for transmission in a 1.2288 Mcps band and in a 3.6268 Mcps band. In addition, the present invention describes a method for transmitting forward link and reverse link data of both rate set 1 digital data and rate set 2 digital data. Rate set 1 digital data comprises variable rate data at rates defined as Mux Option 1 in the IS-95 standard. Rate set 2 digital data comprises variable rate data at rates defined as Mux Option 2 in the appendix to the IS-95 standard. In addition the present invention describes methods of transmitting the data for applications using packet switched technology and circuit switched technology.
