  • Patent number: 5974142
Abstract: A security node disposed in the telecommunications network connecting calling and called parties transforms information (which can be voice, data, facsimile, video and other types of calls or messages) encrypted in a first format to (a) encrypted information in a different format or to (b) non-encrypted information, and vice-versa. The node is accessible from any location connected to the network. By routing calls or messages originated by the calling party and destined for the called party via the security node, and providing appropriate control signals to the node, the information may be encrypted only over a portion of the transmission path between the parties, and clear over the remainder of the transmission path. Alternatively, the information may be encrypted in different portions of the path using different encryption algorithms.

  • Patent number: 5657378
Abstract: A telephone device for accessing electronic services includes a housing having a front portion with a display device and a telephone keypad. The telephone device provides a graphical user interface whereby user selectable options are presented in a graphical format on the display device and a user is allowed to make selections therefrom with, for example, a point-and-click mechanism. A processor, preferably a single programmable digital signal processor, is responsive to the telephone keypad and the user selectable options and executes a variety of modem functions, telephone functions, and application programs. The programmable digital signal processor also supports the graphical user interface.

  • Patent number: 5195130
Abstract: The present invention relates to a telephone configured as a programmable microcomputer (telephone-computer) which operates in most circumstances through a standard telephone 12-key keypad input. The telephone-computer includes telephone electronics and a microprocessor unit operated in conjunction with other computer elements, including memory devices, and a programmable gate array (PGA) chip and enhanced integrity features, and has the overall appearance of a telephone. The PGA has the capability of being reconfigured to accommodate various types of softwares which require different hardware configuration, but without actually reconfiguring the hardware. The telephone-computer delivers data processing capabilities and services through an ordinary telephone instrument via conventional telephone lines with a network host computer which communicates with a vast panoply of service bureaus.
