  • Patent number: 11619534
Abstract: A system and method for measuring a flow of saturated steam can include a temperature sensor that measures process temperature, and one or more pressure sensors that measure pressure including differential pressure and static pressure. A flow of saturated steam can be calculated from two sets of measurements, one measurement using the differential pressure and the static pressure and a second measurement using the differential pressure and the process temperature. Redundant flow measurements can be provided with respect to the flow of saturated steam in case of failure of the temperature sensor or the pressure sensors. In addition, a deviation between the flow of the saturated steam as calculated from the process temperature and the differential pressure compared to a flow of saturated steam as calculated from the differential pressure and the static pressure can provide an indication of degradation of the temperature sensor or the pressure sensors.

  • Patent number: 10237712
Abstract: This disclosure provides various ways to enable a BLUETOOTH Low Energy (BLE) communication capability for a field instrument. An apparatus is configured to perform a method for providing BLE communication capability to a legacy field instrument in an industrial control system. The method includes receiving, by a BLE adapter coupled to the field instrument, information from the field instrument according to a protocol that is native to the field instrument. The method includes converting, by the BLE adapter, the information into a BLE communication protocol. The method includes transmitting, by the BLE adapter, the converted information to an external device over a BLE communication link.

  • Publication number: 20180113602
Abstract: A method includes communicating using a BLUETOOTH Low Energy (BLE) communication link with a plurality of field instruments in an industrial process and control system. The method also includes receiving operating parameters from each of the field instruments. The method further includes displaying an identifier of each field instrument and at least one operating parameter from each field instrument on a single screen or window of a wireless mobile device. The method also includes receiving a user input associated one or more operating parameters. In addition, the method includes transmitting data to or receiving information from a first field instrument based on the user input. In some embodiments, the method can also include receiving one or more voice or gesture commands related to operation of the field instruments, translating the voice or gesture commands to command data, and sending the command data to the field instruments.

  • Publication number: 20180101189
Abstract: A system including a field device, a power interface, a short-range wireless transceiver, and at least one processor. The field device is configured to obtain measurements of one or more process variables in an industrial process control and automation system. The power interface is configured to provide 4-20 ma current to the apparatus and the field device. The short-range wireless transceiver is configured to transmit and receive the measurements. The at least one processor is configured to receive, from one or more other devices, a request for access to the measurements and transmit, to the one or more other devices, the measurements.

  • Publication number: 20170318700
Abstract: A tamper-resistant cover apparatus includes a cover securable to the front face of a peripheral device. Such a cover permits status indicators and power buttons on the front face of the peripheral device to be visible through the cover and wherein the cover is attached to the face of the peripheral device by one or more connecting components to prevent unintended or malicious changes to the peripheral device. One or more portions of the cover can define an open area through which one or more electronic cables connect to one or more ports of the peripheral device. The open area supports the presence of electronic cables while preventing the electronic cable(s) from being removed as well as preventing unused ports from being accessed while the cover is in place.

  • Publication number: 20170089745
Abstract: A fluid level transmitter combination for placement on a tank having ?2 tank apertures. A first and second flange provides a first, second and third flange aperture over the tank aperture(s). A temperature sensor over the first flange aperture senses a temperature. A first pressure sensor over the second flange aperture senses a first pressure. A second pressure sensor senses a second pressure. A processor is coupled to the output of the second pressure sensor that implements a compensated fluid level determination algorithm using the temperature, first pressure, and second pressure to generate a compensated fluid level measurement for the process fluid. A transmitter is coupled to an output of the processor.

Abstract: A fluid level transmitter combination for placement on a tank having ?2 tank apertures. At least one flange provides a first, second and third flange aperture over the tank aperture(s). A temperature sensor over the first flange aperture senses a temperature. A first pressure sensor over the second flange aperture senses a first pressure. A level transmitter extends through the third flange aperture for transmitting a pulse signal into the process fluid or at its surface and receiving a pulse echo or a second pressure sensor senses a second pressure. A processor is coupled to the level transceiver or to an output of the second pressure sensor that implements a compensated fluid level determination algorithm using the temperature, first pressure, and pulse echo or second pressure to generate a compensated fluid level measurement for the process fluid. A transmitter is coupled to an output of the processor.
