  • Patent number: 10088598
Abstract: Methods for compiling, generating, and using a run weather index and a personalized run weather index which represent the cumulative and weighted effects of weather and environmental conditions on outdoor running for different distance categories. The run weather index and personalized run weather index represent relative environmental and meteorological conditions as they affect run performance. Targeted messages associated with a run weather index may also be delivered based on current and/or forecasted run weather indexes or personalized run weather indexes.

  • Patent number: 8606517
Abstract: A method of predicting a departure time includes receiving a first location, a second location, and an activity start time corresponding to an indication of an activity stored in a personal scheduling component of a user device. A departure time from the second location is determined based on travel time between the first location and the second location by analyzing the impact of long range data on at least one travel route between the first location and the second. The departure time from the second location is updated prior to the activity by analyzing the impact of short range data on a possible travel route between the first location and the second location during the expected time of travel prior to the activity. The user is alerted if the updated departure time is different than the departure time.

  • Patent number: 8594936
Abstract: Liquid precipitation and snow precipitation measurements having a first resolution and spanning a first time period are aggregated with data from a computer generated model of current liquid precipitation and snowfall estimates having a second resolution and spanning a second time period to form near up-to-date estimates of liquid precipitation and snowfall over a determined time period. The measurements are received from various weather history data severs over a network. The data is processed into a gridded data set for a determined geographical region. The current conditions estimates are received over a network from a different sever. The processor then aggregates the processed liquid and snow precipitation estimates with the current precipitation estimates corresponding to the period from the most recent precipitation and snowfall data until present.

  • Patent number: 8024111
Abstract: A method of recommending a travel route includes receiving an indication of a start location and a destination location, and a desired arrival time at the destination location. One or more road segments included in possible routes are identified. Traffic data, event data, and weather data from at least one traffic data source, event data source, and weather data source, are received for the one or more road segments corresponding to a desired time of travel between the start location and destination location. At least one suggested travel route from the start location to the destination location for arriving at the destination by the desired arrival time is created based on analyzing the impact of the traffic data, the event data, and the weather data on the one or more road segments during the desired time of travel between the start location and destination location.

  • Patent number: 7941274
Abstract: To provide human forecasters with monitoring and verification tools to know when a machine-generated forecast may already be good enough for public use or to know when to intervene to improve a forecast. Performance support systems and methods that deliver real-time feedback of previous forecasts and forecast accuracy in order to optimize the human forecaster's effectiveness. The systems and methods allow human forecasters to receive feedback from an array of different comparison products, including verification information, forecast discussions and forecast tools, in order to learn from previous forecast performance during similar situations so that human forecasters can focus their energies and resources to those tasks that they can add value to or over machine-generated forecasts. As such, the systems and methods of the present invention allow human forecasters to improve machine-generated forecasts and provide improved operational results.

  • Patent number: 7379817
Abstract: Methods and articles of manufacture for providing an indication or representation that describes the state of weather over a period in the past for a particular location. Observation data for the location is accumulated and stored over the period. Because forecast engines exist and can be adapted for use in determining the indication of weather, the observation data is converted into a format of forecast data. The data is then grouped into subsets and processed as forecast data. For each subset, a representation of weather is determined. The representations of weather for each subset are then processed to determine the representation of weather for the period of time.
