Abstract: An HVAC actuator configured to actuate an HVAC component may include a rotatable output shaft having a range of rotation between a first end position and a second end position, a drive mechanism configured to selectively drive the output shaft, and a housing for housing the drive mechanism. The HVAC actuator may include a position indicator viewable from a front side of the housing that moves as the output shaft is rotated such that the position indicator indicates a current position of the output shaft. The position indicator may include an indicator wheel that is directly coupled to the output shaft of the HVAC actuator and may rotate with the output shaft. The indicator wheel may have one or more markings that move with the indicator wheel. The one or more markings may include a line extending in a radial direction from a rotation axis of the indicator wheel.

  • Patent number: 10139843
Abstract: An electric heating system controlled with a remote thermostat. The system may incorporate wireless technology and a line voltage equipment interface sub-system. The sub-system may have a line voltage relay and an antenna. The relay may be mounted within an electric heater enclosure. The antenna may be mounted directly on the enclosure. The antenna may receive temperature control signals from a transmitter of the thermostat. The signals may be processed to control a connection of the heater to power with a relay receiving the processed control signals. The control of power to the heater may maintain a temperature approximately equal to a thermostat temperature setting. The antenna and relay electronics may provide a backup control of the heater in the event of, for example, a loss of signals from the thermostat. The backup control may prevent the temperature proximate to equipment interface sub-system from approaching a freezing point.

  • Publication number: 20170046043
Abstract: A mechanism, such as a membrane switch, may incorporate universal symbols making it language independent. Status of switch components may be understood without aid of another device. The components may have, for example, white backlights and/or icons for neutral symbols to convey informational conditions that do not necessarily command immediate attention and may have, for example, color backlights and/or icons for non-neutral symbols to convey informational conditions that command immediate attention. A choice of white may be agnostic to color blindness and provide high contrast. Also, there may be a self-test icon with an indication when there is an on-going test of a system with which the mechanism is associated. Symbols on the face of the mechanism may indicate valve openings and closings, pressures, faults, and so forth. The symbols and associated lights and backlights may be visible for at least a specified distance to a person with normal vision.

  • Patent number: 9568207
Abstract: An HVAC actuator may include a rotatable output shaft, a drive mechanism configured to selectively drive the output shaft, two or more wiring terminals, and a removable blocking tab configured to block wire attachment to at least one of the two or more wiring terminals. When the removable tab is removed, wire attachment to the previously blocked at least one wire terminals may no longer blocked. The removable block tab may be a break-away tab. The HVAC actuator may include a housing enclosing the drive mechanism, and the break-away tab may be integral to the housing. In some instances, the removable tab, once removed, is not configured to be reattached, but this is not required.
