  • Publication number: 20060189833
Abstract: A process for separating an alkylene oxide from an aqueous mixture is provided in which no detectable dioxane byproduct is formed. An aqueous mixture containing an alkylene oxide is contacted with a carboxylic acid ion exchange resin to separate the alkylene oxide from the aqueous mixture. The ion exchange capacity of the resin is regenerated with an acid wash at a temperature of at least 60° C., wherein regeneration of the resin does not result in the formation of dioxane in the spent acid wash. The process is particularly useful in purifying an aqueous 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde solution derived from an aqueous extraction of a hydroformylation reaction mixture containing ethylene oxide.

  • Publication number: 20060096172
Abstract: A C-shaped tree and plant watering pail which can be fitted around a plant stem or the trunk of a tree and holds water which is slowly released into the soil through a porous bottom section. A removable flexible cover can be placed over the porous bottom section to allow the pail to retain its water. In a preferred embodiment the pail has a water reservoir between two concentric side walls with a hollow center section and a vertical slice missing from the pail walls which gives it a C-shape as viewed from above or below. In another embodiment a section is removed from the top of the C-shaped reservoir leaving the missing vertical slice extend from the bottom up only part way to the top.

  • Patent number: 6934658
Abstract: Disclosed is an apparatus incorporating hardware based logic and a predetermined default list of software affecting responses to be taken in connection with temperatures sensed by thermal sensors checking the temperature of portions of computer logic. At the time application software is loaded, the software can modify the default response list. The list of responses to be taken and the over temperature conditions at which they are to be activated are stored in hardware directly accessible by hardware based thermal sensor monitoring logic for direct control of the hardware. The control can alter conditions such as clock frequency, stopping use of application software, interrupting OS functionality, removing power from components and so forth.

  • Publication number: 20050104266
Abstract: A heat treating furnace having a quenching chamber incorporated therein or associated therewith is disclosed. The heating chamber within the furnace is utilized to heat work-pieces to a desired temperature. When the heating cycle has been completed, the heating chamber and the quenching chamber are back-filled with an inert gas to a redundant pressure (over atmospheric). The work-pieces are then transferred into the quenching chamber and lowered into the intensively agitated water in the water quench tank by an elevator mechanism. High quenchant (water) agitation rates eliminate film boiling on the surface of the hot work-pieces. When the compressive stresses on the surface of the work-pieces are at a maximum and are at an optimum depth, or when the cooling recipes otherwise determine, the elevator mechanism in the quenching chamber lifts the work-pieces out of the water quench tank and into the inert gas blanket above the tank, thus interrupting the intensive quenching process.

  • Publication number: 20050043570
Abstract: The present invention is an improvement upon the process for the production of 1,3-propanediol wherein an aqueous solution of 3-hydroxy propanal is formed, catalyst, if any, used in said formation is removed from the solution, sodium hydroxide is added to the solution to neutralize any acid therein such that the pH is at least about 5, the neutralized aqueous solution is subjected to hydrogenation to produce a crude 1,3-propanediol mixture which is distilled to produce 1,3-propanediol, water, and reactive heavy components. The improvement on this process comprises replacing the sodium hydroxide with a hydroxide selected from the group consisting of ammonium hydroxide, alkali metal hydroxides other than sodium hydroxide, and alkaline earth metal hydroxides to reduce the viscosity of the reactive heavy components.

  • Publication number: 20040159904
Abstract: An integrated circuit having a temperature sensitive circuit (TSC) to generate a signal indicative of the substrate temperature near the TSC. The integrated circuit has circuitry configured to receive a TSC signal from at least one TSC and to convert the TSC signal to a signal indicative of the integrated circuit's temperature. The thermal control circuit compares the integrated circuit temperature to a threshold and produces a corrective action signal when the temperature exceeds the threshold. The corrective action signal is provided to corrective action circuitry preferably configured to modify the operation of the IC to reduce the IC temperature in proximity to the corresponding TSC.

  • Patent number: 6725307
Abstract: A distributed system structure for a large-way, symmetric multiprocessor system using a bus-based cache-coherence protocol is provided. The distributed system structure contains an address switch, multiple memory subsystems, and multiple master devices, either processors, I/O agents, or coherent memory adapters, organized into a set of nodes supported by a node controller. The node controller receives commands from a master device, communicates with a master device as another master device or as a slave device, and queues commands received from a master device. Due to pin limitations that may be caused by large buses, e.g. buses that support a high number of data pins, the node controller may be implemented such that the functionality for its address paths and data paths are implemented in physically separate components, chips, or circuitry, such as a node data controller or a node address controller.

  • Patent number: 6684232
Abstract: During execution of floating point convert to integer instructions, the necessity for incrementing the instruction result during rounding is predicted early and utilized to predict the result sign, to produce an implied bit which will achieve the correct result with round determination logic for standard floating point instructions, and to set up rounding mode, guard and sticky bits allowing the standard round determination logic to be utilized during rounding of the floating point convert to integer instruction result. The minimum logic required to control incrementing of a standard floating point instruction result during rounding may therefore be reused for floating point convert to integer instructions without increasing the critical path for rounding and without significantly adding to the complexity of the floating point execution unit.

  • Publication number: 20030180381
Abstract: Cobalt salts have been found to be particularly effective against H. pylori and may therefore be used to treat gastroin tenstinal infection with this bacteria. The cobalt salts have the advantage of showing a good degree of selectivity for H. pylori over other Gram positive and Gram negative bacteria. Treatment with the cobalt salts may be carried out at the same time as conventional treatment with an antibiotic and/or a proton pump inhibitor.
