  • Patent number: 4526690
Abstract: A multiwell apparatus for the assay of microliter quantities of body fluids is provided which prevents fluid loss by lateral migration or gravity flow through a microporous membrane or ultrafilter. A sample is passed through a membrane to which an antibody has been bonded in order to harvest complementary viral antigens in the sample. The harvested viral antigen is converted to single strand DNA or RNA which then is deposited on a second membrane. The deposited single strand DNA or RNA is capable of reacting with labeled DNA or other suitable detection probe which can be detected and correlated with antigen concentration in the sample.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 4, 1983
Date of Patent: July 2, 1985
    Assignee: Millipore Corporation
Inventors: Joseph R. Kiovsky, Clifford L. Hendrick
  • Patent number: 4410453
Abstract: The performance of a silver on alumina catalyst for the oxidation of ethylene to ethylene oxide is improved by the inclusion, in the raw mix for the carrier of an oxide, or oxide precursor, of zinc, lanthanum, or magnesium in the amount of 7 to 40%, calculated as the oxide.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: February 1, 1982
Date of Patent: October 18, 1983
    Assignee: Norton Co.
Inventors: Joseph R. Kiovsky, George W. Young, Ramzi Y. Saleh
  • Patent number: 4232181
Abstract: Ammonia exchanged large port mordenite, which is subsequently mildly acid leached, and calcined, in which at least 95% of the exchangeable sodium has been removed and having from 0.38 to 0.8 milliequivalents of acid sites at least as strong as 48% sulfuric acid per gram (as measured by titration with butylamine, and employing dicinnamalacetone indicator) has been found to be highly active hydrocarbon isomerization catalyst. Incorporation of noble metal, e.g. palladium, on the catalyst improves the selectivity for isomerization of normal pentane to isopentane for highly active catalysts at high conversion rates.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: June 28, 1979
Date of Patent: November 4, 1980
    Assignee: Norton Company

  • Patent number: 4102978
Abstract: Alumina catalyst carriers are produced by bonding pre-fired gibbsite with microcrystalline boehmite. Superior strength of the product is achieved by use of gibbsite fired to an L.O.I. at 1000.degree. C of 8% or less, or preferably less than 4%.

  • Patent number: 4059543
Abstract: Clinoptilolite is exchanged to the ammonium form and then treated with a dilute solution of a strong acid. An adsorbent for acid gases of improved capacity and life is obtained. The adsorbent is preferably in the form of ceramic bonded pellets.

  • Patent number: 3945945
Abstract: High surface area alumina bodies for use as catalysts, catalyst carriers, and sorbents are made by controlled mixing of fine particle size platy boehmite alumina aggregates with a monobasic acid to produce non-pasty free-flowing particulate mass of aggregates of boehmite. This mass can then be formed by pressure into selected shapes such as rings, saddles, cylinders, solid, or hollow, or pellets, dried and fired to produce bodies of boehmite, gamma alumina, delta alumina, theta alumina or alpha alumina ranging in surface area of from 10 square meters per gram to greater than 300 square meters per gram. Catalytic metal can be included in the bodies by impregnation, before or after firing, or can be incorporated by inclusion in the aqueous acid treating solution.
