  • Patent number: 5035608
Abstract: A device to render articles such as disposable lighters resistant to unauthorized use including a body which slidably receives the lighter. In the normal protected position, the lighter is within the housing and is restricted from extension from the body to a use-position by a locking pin carried on a rocker arm. The rocker arm controls the position of the locking pin and may not be released unless the lighter is inverted releasing a tumbler freeing the rocker arm and thus permitting depression of the rocker arm to disengage the locking pin from the lighter. In the disengaged position, the user may slide the lighter relative to the sleeve to a use-position in which the lighter may be actuated. The safety device may be applied to other articles to make them child-resistant such as medicine containers.

  • Patent number: 4901848
Abstract: A case for personal accessory items such as disposable lighters, cosmetics and candy, packaged in elongate containers. In the preferred embodiment, a case having a transparent area slidably receives the accessory item. Suitable ornamentation is provided in the transparent area. A portion of the case extends to provide a shield or guard over the ignition components of the lighter to minimize the risk of inadvertent actuation when the lighter is fully inserted in the case. The body of the case may be provided with a relieved area so that the user can conveniently extend a part of the contained lighter from the case to a position of use.

  • Patent number: 4043777
Abstract: An air handling unit is disclosed which comprises a compact unitary assembly of a cooling unit and an exhaust unit. The cooling unit, either an evaporative cooler or a refrigeration unit, delivers cooled air via a delivery duct to a room space. An exhaust system includes a duct and blower communicating with atmosphere and the attic or dead air space to evacuate or exhaust hot air from this space. In alternate embodiments, a clutch arrangement permits selective actuation of the exhaust and cooling units.
