  • Patent number: 9157566
Abstract: Insulation systems employing expansion features to insulate elongated containers subject to extreme temperature fluctuations, and related components and methods are disclosed. Elongated containers, such as pipes, tanks, vessels may have contents that need to be insulated to prevent heat exchange with the outside environment. Insulation systems are disposed along the perimeter of the elongated containers to prevent the heat exchange. In cases where the insulation systems are subject to extreme temperature fluctuations, components of the insulation may thermally expand and/or contract, and may form gaps between the components. Alternatively, damaging stresses may be formed as the thermal dimensional changes may be restricted as part of the installation. The insulation system comprises expansion features to better enable the gaps to be filled and relieve damaging stresses. In this manner, the elongated containers may be efficiently insulated even while subjected to extreme temperature fluctuations.

  • Publication number: 20150079316
Abstract: An elongated fastener is configured to retain an insulation wrap around an elongated container. The fastener includes an elongated and substantially flat fastener body having first and second parallel rails extending from each longitudinal side of the fastener body. The fastener body is configured to span an elongated seam formed by opposing sides of the insulation wrap when the joint is disposed around the elongated container. Each rail is configured to extend into a complementary longitudinal slot disposed at an edge of a respective opposing side of the insulation wrap. Each rail includes at least one protrusion for engaging with each slot, thereby retaining each rail in its respective slot and retaining the insulation wrap around the elongated container.

  • Publication number: 20130213515
Abstract: Insulation members employing standoff surfaces for insulating pipes are disclosed. Related components and methods are also disclosed. Pipes may be used to transport a substance in a fluid and/or gas form that is temperature sensitive. Unwanted heat transfer through an exterior surface of the pipe may be reduced by mounting insulation members on the pipe. In this regard, in embodiments disclosed herein, an anti-corrosive substance may be applied to the exterior surface of the pipe to prevent corrosion. An inner surface of the insulation members may include one or more standoff surfaces configured to mount the insulation members to the pipe to provide insulation, while minimally disturbing the anti-corrosive substance applied to the exterior surface of the pipe, as a non-limiting example.
