Patent number: 8433894Abstract: A method and an apparatus for performing physical layer security operation are disclosed. A physical layer performs measurements continuously, and reports the measurements to a medium access control (MAC) layer. The MAC layer processes the measurements, and sends a security alert to a security manager upon detection of an abnormal condition based on the measurements. The security manager implements a counter-measure upon receipt of the security alert. The measurements include channel impulse response (CIR), physical medium power measurement, automatic gain control (AGC) value and status, automatic frequency control (AFC) gain and status, analog-to-digital converter (ADC) gain, Doppler spread estimate, and/or short preamble matched filter output. The security manager may switch a channel, switch a channel hopping policy, change a back-off protocol, or change a beamforming vector upon reception of the security alert.Type: GrantFiled: July 8, 2009Date of Patent: April 30, 2013Assignee: InterDigital Patent Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Alexander Reznik, Joseph S. Patent number: 8315320Abstract: A method for reporting power headroom is disclosed. Power headroom may be reported across all carriers (wideband), for a specific carrier, or for a carrier group. The formula used to calculate the power headroom depends on whether the carrier (or a carrier in the carrier group) has a valid uplink grant. If the carrier or carrier group does not have a valid uplink grant, the power headroom may be calculated based on a reference grant. The power headroom is calculated by a wireless transmit/receive unit and is reported to an eNodeB.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2009Date of Patent: November 20, 2012Assignee: Interdigital Patent Holdings, Inc.Inventors: Guodong Zhang, Erdem Bala, Philip J. Publication number: 20120275403Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed herein to determine a gain factor. A user equipment (UE) may determine that an S-E-DPCCH and an E-DPCCH are to be transmitted on a primary stream. The UE may calculate an E-DPCCH gain factor using a gain factor calculation and apply the -DPCCH gain factor. The UE may calculate an E-DPCCH gain factor reduction. For example, the E-DPCCH gain factor reduction may compensate for changes from single stream transmission to multiple stream transmission. The UE may apply the E-DPCCH gain factor reduction to the E-DPCCH gain factor. The UE may apply the E-DPCCH gain factor reduction to an S-E-DPCCH gain factor.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 28, 2012Publication date: November 1, 2012Applicant: INTERDIGITAL PATENT HOLDINGS, INC.Inventors: Hong O. Patent number: 8159999Abstract: A peer-to-peer communication system using a direct link setup (DLS) is disclosed. A mobile station (STA) establishes a direct communication link with another STA by sending a message requesting a DLS to an access point (AP), (i.e., a centralized controller). The AP may accept or reject the DLS request based on channel measurements. If the DLS request is accepted, the DLS is established such that the STAs may directly communicate with each other. An established DLS connection may be torn down by the AP sending a message including a DLS teardown request to one of the STAs, or based on channel measurements. The system may be an Ad hoc network comprising a plurality of STAs without an AP where each STA maintains a database of one-hop and two-hop STAs, and establishes a direct link to other STAs after informing neighboring STAs of an intention to establish a direct communication link.Type: GrantFiled: September 23, 2005Date of Patent: April 17, 2012Assignee: InterDigital Technology CorporationInventors: Arty Chandra, Joseph S. Publication number: 20110149915Abstract: Upon the UE transmission power requirement exceeding the maximum or allowable transmission power the MAC may be informed for subsequent TFC selection of all TFCs that currently exceed this limit. The UE may then chose the TFC with the next lower transmission power requirement and the sequence will continue until an acceptable TFC is determined. The system also enables the replacement of the TFCs in the TFCS and advanced determination of non-supported TFCs. The TFCs that require transmission power greater then the maximum or allowed UE transmission power shall be determined continuously in every TTI, not just in TTIs where the maximum power has been exceeded.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 25, 2011Publication date: June 23, 2011Applicant: INTERDIGITAL TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Stephen E.
