  • Patent number: 8526888
Abstract: Techniques for performing inter-frequency and/or inter-radio access technology (RAT) measurements are disclosed. A multi-receiver wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may receive downlink transmissions via a plurality of downlink carriers simultaneously. The WTRU may perform inter-frequency and/or inter-RAT measurements using an inactive receiver without measurement gaps if at least one receiver is inactive. If the WTRU receives a measurement order on a disabled carrier, the WTRU may perform measurements on the disabled carrier without measurement gaps using an inactive receiver while maintaining a status of the disabled carrier as disabled. The WTRU may perform the measurements autonomously if a trigger condition is met and at least one receiver is inactive.

  • Patent number: 8433894
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for performing physical layer security operation are disclosed. A physical layer performs measurements continuously, and reports the measurements to a medium access control (MAC) layer. The MAC layer processes the measurements, and sends a security alert to a security manager upon detection of an abnormal condition based on the measurements. The security manager implements a counter-measure upon receipt of the security alert. The measurements include channel impulse response (CIR), physical medium power measurement, automatic gain control (AGC) value and status, automatic frequency control (AFC) gain and status, analog-to-digital converter (ADC) gain, Doppler spread estimate, and/or short preamble matched filter output. The security manager may switch a channel, switch a channel hopping policy, change a back-off protocol, or change a beamforming vector upon reception of the security alert.

  • Patent number: 8315320
Abstract: A method for reporting power headroom is disclosed. Power headroom may be reported across all carriers (wideband), for a specific carrier, or for a carrier group. The formula used to calculate the power headroom depends on whether the carrier (or a carrier in the carrier group) has a valid uplink grant. If the carrier or carrier group does not have a valid uplink grant, the power headroom may be calculated based on a reference grant. The power headroom is calculated by a wireless transmit/receive unit and is reported to an eNodeB.

  • Publication number: 20120287869
Abstract: Systems and methods for managing control signaling overhead for a multi-carrier HSDPA (MC-HSDPA) may be disclosed. In particular, a plurality of downlink carriers may be received and bundled or paired. Configuration information indicative of the bundling may then be generated and transmitted. Additionally, one or more components such as antennas, user equipment (UE), and the like may receive an indication of a configuration or state via a high speed shared control channel (HS-SCCH) order where the indication includes order bits and order types and the configuration may be applied to activate and/or deactivate the components or operations such as uplink closed-loop transmit diversity (CLTD), uplink multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO). The order bits and/or order types may also be extended to support the activation/deactivation of additional carriers of MC-HSDPA.

  • Publication number: 20120275403
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed herein to determine a gain factor. A user equipment (UE) may determine that an S-E-DPCCH and an E-DPCCH are to be transmitted on a primary stream. The UE may calculate an E-DPCCH gain factor using a gain factor calculation and apply the -DPCCH gain factor. The UE may calculate an E-DPCCH gain factor reduction. For example, the E-DPCCH gain factor reduction may compensate for changes from single stream transmission to multiple stream transmission. The UE may apply the E-DPCCH gain factor reduction to the E-DPCCH gain factor. The UE may apply the E-DPCCH gain factor reduction to an S-E-DPCCH gain factor.

  • Patent number: 8159999
Abstract: A peer-to-peer communication system using a direct link setup (DLS) is disclosed. A mobile station (STA) establishes a direct communication link with another STA by sending a message requesting a DLS to an access point (AP), (i.e., a centralized controller). The AP may accept or reject the DLS request based on channel measurements. If the DLS request is accepted, the DLS is established such that the STAs may directly communicate with each other. An established DLS connection may be torn down by the AP sending a message including a DLS teardown request to one of the STAs, or based on channel measurements. The system may be an Ad hoc network comprising a plurality of STAs without an AP where each STA maintains a database of one-hop and two-hop STAs, and establishes a direct link to other STAs after informing neighboring STAs of an intention to establish a direct communication link.

  • Publication number: 20120082192
Abstract: Method and apparatus for transmitting pilot on multiple antennas are disclosed. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) may transmit a primary dedicated physical control channel (DPCCH) and at least one secondary DPCCH via multiple antennas using different channelization codes. The first eight pilot symbols of the secondary DPCCH may be same as pilot symbols of length eight of the primary DPCCH. The secondary DPCCH may include a same number of pilot bits as the primary DPCCH in a normal mode and in a compressed mode, respectively. The transmit power of the secondary DPCCH may be adjusted based on a ratio of a number of pilot symbols in the primary DPCCH and the secondary DPCCH. When a required transmit power exceeds a maximum allowed transmit power of the WTRU, power scaling may be applied equally to the primary DPCCJ and the secondary DPCCH.

  • Publication number: 20120008510
Abstract: Systems, methods, and instrumentalities are disclosed to provide antenna transmit diversity. A wireless transmit/receiver unit (WTRU) may comprise multiple antennas. A channel condition for each of the antennas may be determined. A probing phase may be used in order to determine the channel conditions. During a period of the probing phase, a probing signal from each antenna may be transmitted during a respective time interval. The WTRU transmit power may or may not be held constant. A Node B may receive each probing signal and determine channel quality information. The Node B may adjust the determined channel quality information if there is a power offset between the signals. The Node B may send the channel quality information to the WTRU. The WTRU may switch an antenna to use for uplink transmission based on the received channel quality information.

  • Publication number: 20110149915
Abstract: Upon the UE transmission power requirement exceeding the maximum or allowable transmission power the MAC may be informed for subsequent TFC selection of all TFCs that currently exceed this limit. The UE may then chose the TFC with the next lower transmission power requirement and the sequence will continue until an acceptable TFC is determined. The system also enables the replacement of the TFCs in the TFCS and advanced determination of non-supported TFCs. The TFCs that require transmission power greater then the maximum or allowed UE transmission power shall be determined continuously in every TTI, not just in TTIs where the maximum power has been exceeded.
