Patent number: 6334723Abstract: The invention accomplishes print medium feed functions, at least in part, by making use of pre-existing printer apparatus that is used to accomplish other functions of the printer. For example, the invention can enable the use-of a single print drive mechanism to accommodate multiple print medium feed paths within a printer and, in particular, feed paths in which print media are fed into the print drive mechanism in different (e.g., opposite) directions. Additionally, the invention can enable a rotatable media guide that can be positioned in one position to guide a sheet of a print medium during a print operation and in another position to release the sheet of the print medium after the printing operation, to be positioned in still another position to facilitate guiding a sheet of a print medium into a print drive mechanism after the sheet has traversed a gap in the feed path.Type: GrantFiled: August 31, 1999Date of Patent: January 1, 2002Assignee: Hewlett-Packard CompanyInventors: Steven W. Trovinger, Joseph S. Wong

Patent number: 6100774Abstract: A very low reflection transition with tightly controlled variability between a rectangular coaxial transmission line and a microstrip transmission line. The microstrip ground plane is extended under the transition region to form the transition ground plane. The upper portion of the dielectric of the rectangular coaxial transmission line is removed at the transition region, together with the upper portion of the center conductor. The spacing between the transition center conductor and the ground plane is reduced in relation to the spacing between the rectangular coaxial line center conductor and outer conductive shield. A tuning cavity is formed in the transition ground plane beneath the transition center conductor.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1998Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventors: Gerald A. Cox, Brian T. McWhirter, Joseph S. Wong, Robert G. Yaccarino, Steve E. Bradshaw, Peter J. Holbrook

Patent number: 5982338Abstract: A microwave circuit including a rectangular coaxial transmission line, a microstrip transmission line and a wideband transition section for transitioning between the rectangular coaxial and microstrip lines. The transition section includes a capacitive section which cancels inductive reactance caused by physical discontinuities at the transition junction. The transition section includes a conductive tab extending from the rectangular coaxial center conductor which is electrically connected to the microstrip conductor line. The capacitive section can take the form of a dielectric disk of greater dielectric constant than that of the rectangular coaxial dielectric section, or an area of increased cross-sectional dimension of the rectangular coaxial center conductor.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1997Date of Patent: November 9, 1999Assignee: Raytheon CompanyInventor: Joseph S. Patent number: 4878033Abstract: A gallium arsenide MESFET amplifier circuit employing a parallel feedback network having first and second transmission line section filtering networks connected on either side of a series R-C-R circuit. In one optimized embodiment, the transmission line sections each include low and high impedances unequal in length to one-quarter wavelength. The use of two discrete resistors, together with the filtering networks to eliminate thermal noise generated by the resistors, provides optimum gain, low noise, and stable operation over a wide range of microwave frequencies.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 1988Date of Patent: October 31, 1989Assignee: Hughes Aircraft CompanyInventor: Joseph S. Patent number: 4701727Abstract: A stripline tapped-line filter is disclosed including a first substrate upon which a plurality of N hairpin resonators are disposed alternately on opposite surfaces of the first substrate. Each one of the hairpin resonators is in a parallel coupled relationship with an adjacent hairpin resonator disposed on an opposite surface of the first substrate. The first and last hairpin resonators each have an interconnected member disposed on the substrate for respectively coupling a signal into and out of the plurality of N hairpin resonators. Second and third substrates are included with each being respectively located adjacent to ones of the plurality of N hairpin resonators on opposite surfaces of the first substrate. First and second groundplanes are included with each respectively located adjacent the second and third substrates.Type: GrantFiled: November 28, 1984Date of Patent: October 20, 1987Assignee: General Dynamics, Pomona DivisionInventor: Joseph S.
