  • Patent number: 4461787
Abstract: A method and chemical solutions for use in increasing the surface and volume conductivities of a cellophane substrate. The substrate can be used for dielectric copying or any other purpose for which a through-conductive substrate is required.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: September 27, 1982
Date of Patent: July 24, 1984
    Inventor: Joseph Savit
  • Patent number: 4454058
Abstract: A chemical solution to be applied to a substrate either as a surface coating or as an impregnating solution which, in both cases, increases the conductivity and in the case of impregnation also increases the dimensional stability of the substrate. The solution consists of nitrocellulose and a quaternary ammonium compound both dissolved in ethylene glycol monomethyl ether or, alternatively, methyl alcohol. The porous substrates such as paper, vellum and permeable materials like cellophane may be impregnated with the solution. Both the porous and permeable substrates and non-porous substrates, such as polyester films, may utilize the benefits of this solution as a face, back or intermediate conductive surface coating. The chemical solution can also be kneaded in film compounds before casting to reduce film resistivity.

  • Patent number: 4430382
Abstract: A conductive coating structure useful in dielectric recording media and other uses comprises nitrocellulose. In one embodiment, conductive pigments are added to the nitrocellulose thus increasing the opacity of the substrate, and providing a surface suitable for handwritten annotations.

  • Patent number: 4382262
Abstract: A method is provided for jet printing in a plurality of colors on a substrate which is coated with one component of a dye. The jet printing nozzles direct droplets of liquid to the substrate containing the complementary dye components which produce a finished dye at the points of impact of the liquid onto the substrates. Different jet printing nozzles utilize different complementary dye components on the same substrate, producing different dyes and thereby different colors.

  • Patent number: 4356679
Abstract: A method and apparatus is disclosed in which a plurality of envelopes are arranged and aligned in face-to-face relationship to form at least one batch of envelopes with at least a first edge of each envelope in the batch disposed substantially in a common plane and with a second edge of each envelope normal to the first edge and disposed substantially in a common plane. The first edges of the envelope are sprayed with a liquid envelope material degrading agent that functions more effectively when heated. The spraying is effected in a substantially planar fan spray pattern that is substantially parallel to the plane of the envelopes. The spray is moved along the batch in a direction normal to the planes of the envelopes to apply the agent to the first edges. The second edges of the envelopes are also sprayed with the liquid agent with a substantially planar fan spray pattern oriented substantially transversely to the planes of the envelopes.

  • Patent number: 4228634
Abstract: In an envelope opening process in which an aqueous solution of a chemical degradation agent, such as tartaric acid is applied to envelope edges and the envelope edges are then heated and subjected to a mild mechanical action, penetration of the degradation agent through the envelope paper at its edges is assured by including in the aqueous solution from 2.5% to 30% of a glycol ether, such as ethylene glycol ethyl ether.

  • Patent number: 4194342
Abstract: A process is provided for the opening of envelopes made of cellulosic paper in which there is applied to at least one envelope edge as the sole reactant with the cellulose therein a non-noxious organic acid having at least one pK value at room temperature between about 1.5 and about 5, followed by the application of heat and mild mechanical action to the envelope edge.
