  • Patent number: 7959363
Abstract: An optical transceiver for converting and coupling an information-containing electrical signal with an optical fiber including an optical fiber coiled over at least a portion of its length; a support element disposed in the transceiver module; a substrate for securing said coiled optical fiber to said support element to enable said coiled fiber to bend from a first direction to a second opposite direction inside said transceiver module; and an optical multiplexer secured to said substrate for receiving first and second optical fibers and multiplexing respective optical signals on said first and second optical fibers into a multi-wavelength beam onto a third optical fiber.
    Type: Grant
    Filed: May 22, 2009
Date of Patent: June 14, 2011

  • Patent number: 7583900
Abstract: An optical transceiver converting and coupling an information-containing electrical signal with an optical fiber including a housing conforming to the industry standard XENPAK™ form factor including an electrical connector for coupling with an external electrical cable or information system device and for transmitting and/or receiving an information-containing electrical communications signal, and a fiber optic connector adapted for coupling with an external optical fiber for transmitting and/or receiving an optical communications signal. At least one electro-optical subassembly is provided in the housing for converting between an information-containing electrical signal and a modulated optical signal corresponding to the electrical signal, along with a modular, interchangeable communications protocol processing printed circuit board in the housing for processing the communications signal into a predetermined electrical or optical communications protocol, such as the IEEE 802.
    Type: Grant

  • Patent number: 7578624
Abstract: An optical transceiver for converting and coupling an information-containing electrical signal with an optical fiber including a housing, an electro-optical subassembly in the housing for converting between an information-containing electrical signal and a modulated optical signal corresponding to the electrical signal from which at least two optical fibers extends; and a flexible substrate for securing each of the optical fibers to prevent tangling in the housing interior and to enable said fibers to bend from a first orientation to a second orientation. An optical fiber receptacle or connector is provided on the housing to couple to an external optical fiber.

  • Patent number: 7566175
Abstract: The present invention provides a ferrule comprising a housing for the stripped end of an optic fiber, and at least one notch and/or protrusion on the outer surface of the ferrule. The present invention further provides a support comprising at least one protrusion and/or groove mating with at least one notch and/or protrusion respectively, on the outer surface of the ferrule for aligning the ferrule and preventing motion (rotational and translational) of the ferrule relative to the support. In various embodiments, the orientation of the optic fiber is fixed with respect to the at least one notch and/or protrusion.
