Patent number: 12155792Abstract: The present application describes providing an attestation level to a received communication. The attestation level may be used to communicate a level of security to a network or a called party that receives the communication. The attestation level associated with the communication may indicate to a destination network and/or recipient that the phone number associated with the communication is secure and/or the telephone number has not been spoofed.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2024Date of Patent: November 26, 2024Assignee: Level 3 Communications, LLCInventors: Richard D. Moore, Joseph Roy, Joseph Scivicque, Matthew C. Hess, George Wendell McFalls

Patent number: 12149572Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing programmatical public switched telephone network (“PSTN”) trunking for cloud hosted applications. In various embodiments, a computing system may determine one or more first network interconnection characteristics associated with a first entity service provider within a call service network operated by a call network service provider. Based on the determined one or more first network interconnection characteristics associated with the first entity service provider, the computing system may cause a network provisioning application layer to establish one or more network interconnections between a first network associated with the first entity service provider and the call service network, in some cases, by establishing shared peering connections between the first network and the call service network.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2022Date of Patent: November 19, 2024Assignee: Level 3 Communications, LLCInventors: Kimberly Adams, Anne Kempen, Joseph A. Scivicque, Adam Uzelac

Patent number: 12101443Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing management of routing across multiple voice or data networks with separate routing masters. In various embodiments, in response to receiving a request to establish a call between a calling party in a first network and a called party in a second network, a computing system might receive a first set of network information from a first routing database(s) that is operated by a first service provider and a second set of network information from a second routing database(s) that is operated by a second service provider separate from the first service provider; might analyze the received first and second sets of network information to generate a unified routing model for optimizing routing of the call through the first and second networks; and might establish the call through a selected optimized route based on the generated unified routing model.Type: GrantFiled: September 8, 2023Date of Patent: September 24, 2024Assignee: Level 3 Communications, LLCInventors: Joseph A. Publication number: 20230300252Abstract: The present disclosure describes providing end-to-end call identity validation of a forwarded call. Identity information associated with a received call invite may be temporarily stored and reused for the forwarded call when a determination is made that the called party is likely to forward the call. If the inbound call is diverted (forwarded) by the called device, a call invite comprising an indication that the invite has been diverted (forwarded) by the called device may be received. The system may match data associated with the diverted call invite with the stored identity information. In some examples, the SHAKEN identity header and SHAKEN token is stored and may be attached to the diverted call invite. DIV authentication may then be performed, and the diverted call invite comprising SHAKEN and DIV identity headers may be provided to the forward-to destination.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 11, 2023Publication date: September 21, 2023Applicant: CenturyLink Intellectual Property LLCInventor: Joseph SCIVICQUE

Publication number: 20230188649Abstract: Systems and methods are provided to provision a customer-specific identifier in cloud-based communications systems so that when a communication arrives at the network services provider, it is identified as being associated with the customer, even when the customer information would otherwise not be available. In examples, when a customer orders communication services from the network services provider (or associates the communication services with a third-party Internet telephony service), the network services provider provides the customer a unique identifier that is provisioned into that customer’s instance of the third-party Internet telephony service. When the customer makes a call using the third-party Internet telephony service, the identifier is inserted into the communication (e.g., in a SIP header). The identifier is extracted when the communication is received at the network services provider and used to identify the customer so that appropriate services, service levels, etc.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 8, 2022Publication date: June 15, 2023Applicant: CenturyLink Intellectual Property LLCInventor: Joseph Scivicque

Patent number: 10938986Abstract: Novel tools and techniques are provided for implementing telephone solicitation prevention using enhanced voice over Internet protocol (“VoIP”) functionalities in conjunction with STIR/SHAKEN protocols. In various embodiments, in response to receiving a call setup message or a call request from a calling party, a call server might send a verification request to a secure telephone identity (“STI”) verification server (“VS”). The STI-VS might verify and send the call setup message to a no solicitation application server, which might instruct a media server to connect to a first gateway device and to play a no solicitation message requesting a response from the calling party, and which might verify whether the response is an appropriate response. If so, a call is established. If not, the call might be disconnected and/or forwarded to a voicemail server to play a voicemail message to the calling party in accordance with preferences of the called party.Type: GrantFiled: May 29, 2019Date of Patent: March 2, 2021Assignee: CenturyLink Intellectual Property LLCInventor: Joseph A.
