  • Patent number: 5231018
Abstract: Metal oxides are extracted from coal fly ash by a bio-leading process. The ash is suspended in an aqueous saline solution having a pH within the range of from 5 to 8 and the suspension is incubated with a microorganism strain capable of growing in aqueous saline solution and binding to metal oxide, and the resulting agglomerates are separated.A new gram-positive bacterial strain designated GIN-1 and being a member of the genus Rhodococcus is described. It has been deposited under No. 40340 at the National Collections of Industrial and Marine Bacterial Ltd. (NCIMB) at Aberdeen, Scotland.GIN-1 is particularly suitable for the bioteching of metal oxides from coal fly ash.

  • Patent number: 4579832
Abstract: A novel hydroprocessing catalyst comprising a cross-linked smectite as framework material and containing catalytically active transition metal derivatives permanently incorporated in specific forms as interlamellar components of the cross-linked smectite structure. Suitable cross-linked smectites include cross-linked forms of montmorillonite, beidellite, hectorite, synthetic fluorhectorite and other members of the smectite mineral group. The catalytically active transition metal derivatives include different combinations of incorporated hydroxy-M and oxo-M oligomers and oligomeric cations (where M=molybdenum, chromium, nickel, cobalt, tungsten or other transition metals), and mononuclear and binuclear metal ions such as those of nickel, cobalt, molybdenum, and other transition metals.

  • Patent number: 4298457
Abstract: A hydropyrolysis process for upgrading heavy, high molecular weight feedstocks such as coal-derived liquids, petroleum crudes, tar sand bitumens, shale oils, bottom residues from process streams, and the like, to lighter, lower molecular weight liquid products. The process includes subjecting the feedstocks to pyrolysis in the presence of hydrogen under carefully controlled conditions of temperature and pressure. The process can be defined as hydrogen-modified, thermal cracking in the specific temperature range of 450.degree. C. to 650.degree. C. and in the hydrogen pressure range of about 120 psi to 2250 psi. The amount of hydrogen present can be varied according to the type of feedstock and the liquid product desired. Although the hydrogen is not consumed in large amounts, it does participate in and modifies the process, and thereby provides a means of controlling the process as to the molecular weight range and structural type distribution of the liquid products.

  • Patent number: 4238364
Abstract: Novel types of molecular sieve cracking catalysts and method of preparation, the catalysts consisting of acidic forms of partially cross-linked smectites and including ions of hydrogen and rare-earth elements such as cerium, gadolinium, lanthanum, neodymium, praseodymium and samarium. In the catalyst preparation, the unit layer structure of the smectite is retained and the effective pore size obtained (8 A-30 A) is sufficiently large to accommodate molecules with a kinetic diameter greater than about 8 A.

  • Patent number: 4216188
Abstract: Novel molecular sieves, being montmorillonites cross-linked with aluminum hydroxide or with chromium hydroxide and a process for the production of same comprising interaction between montmorillonite, in the form of a colloidal solution containing fully separated unit layers (reactant A), and a cross-linking agent, consisting of an accurately buffered and aged colloidal solution of a metal hydroxide, dispersed in the form of low molecular weight oligomers (reactant B).

  • Patent number: 4037440
Abstract: A locking device mountable within a door in a door frame, comprises a casing including a pair of side plates, a toothed-wheel rotatably disposed between the side plates, and a plurality of locking bars coupled to the toothed-wheel and projectable thereby into locking engagement with the door frame. The toothed-wheel is formed with a cam surface for each locking bar, each locking bar carrying at its inner end a cam follower movable along the respective cam surface of the toothed-wheel. The side plates are formed with guiding slots for each locking bar guiding the movement thereof such that the rotation of the toothed-wheel in one direction projects the outer ends of the locking bars from the door into locking engagement with the door frame, and the rotation of the toothed-wheel in the opposite direction withdraws the locking bars into the door.

  • Patent number: 3999880
Abstract: A drilling fixture for use in precisely drilling long bores in a workpiece, such as a door, comprises a pair of plates secured to each other in parallel spaced relationship, a sleeve mounted in the space between the pair of plates, and a pair of rotatable bearings carried by the sleeve for receiving the drill and securely holding same in position during the drilling operation. A clamp is secured to the pair of plates for clamping same to the workpiece in alignment with the longitudinal axis of the sleeve, and presetting means are provided for moving the sleeve at right angles to its longitudinal axis to thereby precisely preset same with respect to the workpiece. A pair of parallel sighting devices are fixed to the sleeve in spaced relationship along the sleeve longitudinal axis to precisely align the sleeve, and the drill when received therein, with the drilling axis.

  • Patent number: 3975934
Abstract: A key-operated door locking device includes a conventional rim lock adapted to be mounted to one side of the door and having a bolt projectable and withdrawable with respect to the door frame by means of a dog carried on the lock cylinder and rotatable by the insertion and rotation of the proper key. The locking device further includes a coupling between the cylinder dog and a rotatable member eccentrically mounting three pivotable rods extending completely across the door so as to be projectable and withdrawable from the three remaining sides of the door, the coupling being effective, upon the rotation of the cylinder dog by the proper key, not only to cause the bolt to be projected into or withdrawn from its respective recess, but also to cause the rotatable member to be rotated and thereby to project or withdraw the rods with respect to their respective recesses.
