  • Publication number: 20080048106
Abstract: An apparatus for verifying, under ambient lighting conditions, the authenticity of an optical security mark on an item, the mark comprising a luminescent material which absorbs light within a first predetermined range of wavelengths and emits luminescence within a plurality of other predetermined wavelength ranges with a predetermined characteristic time response. The apparatus distinguishes the luminescence of the mark from fluorescence the item may have by distinguishing the slower luminescence decay rate of the security mark from the faster decay rate of the inherent fluorescence. The apparatus comprises an optical arrangement, having an illumination assembly and a luminescence detector assembly, and a signal processor assembly, all contained in a single housing. The illumination assembly and the luminescence detector assembly have a common focusing lens and are arranged along a common axis to illuminate the security mark and to detect emitted light from the security mark in a retro-reflective manner.

  • Patent number: 6641440
Abstract: An electrical connector (100) for mounted on a main printed circuit board (PCB) includes an insulative housing (1) defining a plurality of cavities (11, 12), a plurality of contacts (31, 32) received in the housing and extending into the cavities, and a shield member (21, 22) substantially surrounding the housing. An internal PCB (53), a first and a second magnetic modules (61, 62), and a power module (9) are received in a rear opening (13) of the housing. A plurality of conductors (82) electrically connect the internal PCB with the first and the second magnetic modules and the power module. An internal ground plate (7) electrically engages with the internal PCB and mechanically engages with the first and the second magnetic modules and the power module.

  • Patent number: 6394818
Abstract: An electrical power connector (1) for use in a circuit board or backplane system comprises an insulative housing (10) defining a chamber (18) and an opening (11) communicating with the chamber, and a pair of separated conductive contacts (20) received in the chamber. A pair of protrusions (12) extend from opposite sides of the opening. Each contact includes a contact plate (21), a pair of longer contact fingers (242) and a pair of shorter contact fingers (244) between the longer fingers both extending from a front side of the contact plate and form longer and shorter contact sections (245, 247), respectively. Outside surfaces (2452, 2472) of the contact sections are gold plated for conductively contacting against a corresponding receptacle contact of a receptacle connector. The contact plate forms a blocking tab (25) extending in a direction opposite to the plated outside surfaces for insertion between the protrusions of the housing.

  • Patent number: 6293464
Abstract: A card reader (10) includes a housing (12) having a top wall (14), opposed side walls (34), a closed end (30) and an open end (26) defining a card-receiving slot (40), and an array of terminals (50) secured in the housing. The card-receiving slot (40) is spaced upwardly a selected distance from a board-mounting face (22) of the housing (12). The top wall (14) includes an opening (18) therethrough in communication with the card-receiving slot (40) remote from the terminals (50), the opening (18) being aligned with a corresponding opening in the housing (12) beneath the card-receiving slot (40). Portions of a circuit board (70) beneath the housing are exposed for access from above the card reader (10) after mounting to the board (70), when a card (60) is not disposed in the card-receiving slot (40), thereby permitting low profile electronic components (76) to be mounted on the exposed portions of the board or tested or removed therefrom.

  • Patent number: 6099360
Abstract: An electrical contact having a termination end for terminating with a wire and a contact end for mating with a mating contact. The contact end has a top wall with two top portions with a seam therebetween. One of the top portions has a locking lance to secure the contact within a housing. An engaging member provides interaction between the two top portions to distribute forces from the top portion having the locking lance to the other top portion.

  • Patent number: 6053767
Abstract: The invention is directed to an electrical connector (10) including a housing (12) with a mating face (16), a rear face (18) opposite to the mating face (16), a side (20), and an end (26), the end (26) having a holding feature (30) thereon. The housing (12) is mountable onto a surface of a substrate with either the rear face (18) or the [mating face] side (20) being placed against the surface. A hold down (40) is securable to the housing feature (30). The hold down (40) has a substrate securing portion (42) and housing securing portion (46). The housing securing portion (46) is securable to the holding feature (30) in at least two orientations to secure the housing (12) to the substrate when it is mounted in either orientation.
