  • Patent number: 7097330
Abstract: A component carrying tray is removably mounted in a luminaire housing. The luminaire housing has a pair of thumb screws that fit in a pair of key holes shaped opening in the tray so the tray can be removed with one hand. To disengage the tray, a maintenance person simply loosens the thumb screws one quarter turn to align them with the holes, lifts the tray off the thumb screws with one hand, and then pulls the tray out of luminaire housing.

  • Patent number: 6578233
Abstract: A hinge mechanism for a lighting assembly has a base with a slot, a shuttle guide extending from edges of the slot, a shuttle coupled with the base and capable of sliding through the slot and shuttle guide between an up position and a down position, and a link rotatably coupled to an end of the shuttle. An angle between the shuttle guide and the base is acute to allow the shuttle to easily slide into the shuttle guide. The base has a catch lip that extends from a back edge of the slot, wherein the catch lip is capable of deflecting the link slightly as the shuttle passes through the slot. Apertures in the shuttle and the shuttle guide align when the shuttle is in the up position. The link has a lip that inserts into the apertures in the shuttle and the shuttle guide to releasably hold the shuttle in the up position. The shuttle has tabs on an upper end of its back side to keep the shuttle from dislodging from the shuttle guide.

  • Patent number: 6257971
Abstract: An apparatus for simultaneously or selectively grinding ends of a plurality of optical fibers held by optical fiber end devices such as connectors including ferrules. The apparatus has a holder plate having a plurality of types of supporting structures for fixing and supporting a plurality of types of optical fiber end devices with optical fibers connected thereto. Spring or weights are used for urging ends of the optical fibers on the optical fiber end devices supported by the supporting structures. A circular-path-based relative motion is caused to occur between the holder plate and the grinding plate. Each of the optical fiber end devices is a connector including a ferrule. In such a case, the plurality of types of optical fiber end devices may be connectors whose end surfaces are to be ground at different angles or may be the connectors of different connection types.

  • Patent number: 6250781
Abstract: An interchangeable outdoor luminaire includes a housing having a circular top rim and a circular bottom rim with a circumferential recess, a plurality of interchangeable tops, and a plurality of interchangeable light transmissive doors. Each top has a circular rim with a flange that corresponds to the top surface of the housing, and each door has a circular rim with a circular edge that corresponds to the bottom surface of the housing. Because the dimensions of the circular rims of the tops are the same, and the dimensions of the circular rims of the doors are the same, any of the tops for the housing can be used with in conjunction with any of the light transmissive doors.

  • Patent number: 5136493
Abstract: An outdoor lamp holder comprises a housing and a removable, heat conductive component mounting tray. The housing has at least one heat conductive wall and an open front. A door having a window covers the open front. A reflector is mounted in the housing and a lamp socket is mounted in the reflector. A lamp ballast is mounted on the tray. The housing is constructed slidably to receive the tray such that the tray is in heat conductive contact with the heat conductive wall of the housing. Preferably, a slot is formed by a spring bracket that is deflected by the tray to urge the tray against the housing.

  • Patent number: 4344173
Abstract: Compensation for variation of a semiconductor laser threshold position is based on the utilization of the rectifying property of such lasers near threshold. A small amplitude test signal is applied to the laser close to threshold and a distortion component at a harmonic of the test signal frequency is isolated from a voltage or current analog generated from the laser light output. Depending on the order of the harmonic, the characteristic of this distortion component has a maximum value (even harmonic) or is zero valued (odd harmonic) when the threshold current is applied to the laser. If the laser threshold position changes, a feedback circuit resets the bias current applied to the laser to a value close to but just below, the threshold position. The test signal can also be used to compensate for change in laser slope efficiency to avoid any variation in signal power output at a fixed modulation level.
