Abstract: A method and system for processing initiate notifications for a mode of communication received during a conversation of a current mode of communication is provided. A conversation system coordinates a real-time conversation for a current mode of communication. When the conversation system receives an initiate notification that a user requests to initiate a conversation with the user using a mode of communication different from the current mode of communication, the conversation system displays an indication of the notification in a display space that is outside the context of the current mode of communication. The displayed indication may include status information and controls that allow the user to accept or dismiss the request.

Abstract: A facility is provided for controlling application sharing. In various embodiments, the facility shares an application from a sharer computing device to a viewer computing device so that the viewer computing device displays information that the sharer computing device displays, receives an indication from the first viewer computing device to control the sharing, and transfers control of the shared application to the viewer computing device without intervention by a user of the sharer computing device so that a user of the viewer computing device can control the shared application.

Abstract: A facility is described for downloading portions of media files. In various embodiments, the facility displays a timeline on a client computing device that is indicative of a duration of the media file that is stored on a server computing device. The facility receives from a user an indication of portions of the media file that are to be downloaded and downloads to the client computing device the indicated portions of the media file but not the other portions of the media file.
