Publication number: 20240138694Abstract: The system and method for characterizing a tissue of interest may include navigating a needle device in proximity to the tissue of interest. The needle device can comprise a member including a plurality of electroconductive segments. The plurality of electroconductive segments can be electrically insulated from one another. The device can also include a first conductive path electrically coupled to a first electroconductive segment. A second conductive path can be coupled to a second electroconductive segment. The method can include contacting the tissue of interest with the first electrode and determining a tissue impedance of the tissue of interest from an electrical signal from the first electrode. The method can also include characterizing the tissue of interest as malignant or benign based on the tissue impedance.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2023Publication date: May 2, 2024Inventors: Joseph Thomas KEYES, Matthew KREVER, Siobhan CARROLL, Jeffrey D. Publication number: 20230293080Abstract: A flexible circuit that is substantially planar may be assembled into an electrophysiologic catheter. The flexible circuit may include various location sensing portions and force sensing portions. The flexible circuit may be deformed in a manner that improves the catheter's functionality concerning force feedback and location feedback, and then further deformed to be assembled into a small volume of the catheter.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 17, 2023Publication date: September 21, 2023Inventors: Christopher T. BEECKLER, Joseph T. KEYES, Kevin J. HERRERA

Publication number: 20230181252Abstract: An electrophysiology catheter is disclosed having a balloon with a membrane. Electrodes may be disposed on the membrane. Each electrode may include a radiopaque marker. The markers may have different forms, e.g., alphanumeric or polygonal, to facilitate visualization of the electrodes using a bi-stable image and allow for selection of the appropriate electrodes to be energized during ablation of tissue. The inventive subject matter allows for proper orientation of electrodes on the balloon under a two-dimensional imaging system. This allows the operator or physician to determine if certain electrodes are adjacent or contiguous to the posterior surface of the left atrium and ablate such posterior surface for shorter duration or at a lower power to create an effective transmural lesion on the posterior wall of the left atrium while reducing the chances of damaging the adjacent anatomical structures.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 7, 2023Publication date: June 15, 2023Inventors: Jeffrey L. CLARK, Michael D. BANANDO, Christopher T. BEECKLER, Darius D. EGHBAL, Kevin J. HERRERA, Joseph T. KEYES, Christopher BIRCHARD

Publication number: 20190254742Abstract: A catheter comprises an elongated catheter body, a control handle, and a hollow tip electrode having a radially-symmetrical shell defining a cavity surrounding a center inner location from which light is emitted to pass through a plurality of openings formed in the shell for interaction with tissue and/or fluid, such as blood, outside of and in contact with the shell. Light interacting with tissue is reflected back into the cavity for collection whereas light interacting with fluid, such as blood, is absorbed. By analyzing the light collected in the cavity, a determination is made as to a ratio of light reflected by tissue versus light absorbed by fluid for indicating the amount of contact between the tip electrode and tissue. Alternatively, fluorescence may similarly be employed (light is emitted at one wavelength and detected at one or more different wavelengths) since tissue and blood have different fluorescence properties at various wavelengths.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 3, 2019Publication date: August 22, 2019Inventors: John H. ASHTON, Jeffrey L. CLARK, George KAMIN, Joseph T. KEYES
