  • Publication number: 20120179487
Abstract: A method is presented for measuring the recovery of a medical treatment provider's patients from a given medical condition. During treatment and recovery, a patient periodically takes a survey to report the current intensity of the signs and symptoms caused by his/her medical condition. The patient also assigns a weight to each sign/symptom, indicating the relative intensity of his/her desire to eliminate it. The product of the intensity of a sign or symptom and its corresponding weight measures the diminishment of quality of life. An outcomes measure, measurable in quality-adjusted life-years, compares a patient's predicted recovery, which is rendered by an independent source at the time the patient's diagnosis is determined, with the patient's actual recovery. Outcomes measures for a provider's patients with a given medical condition and with similar predicted recoveries are combined to produce an unbiased, risk-adjusted outcomes index that can be compared with that of other providers.

  • Publication number: 20120152102
Abstract: A system for mitigating the effects of an unexpected explosion against a surface is described and claimed. This invention comprises at least one containment vessel containing explosive material fitted with a detonator; and at least one sensing device that can ignite the detonator; or, in another embodiment, a computer interposed between sensing devices and a plurality of detonators to optimize the response. Because transient voltages from a high-voltage firing system can accidentally ignite the detonators, a safety switch driven by an EBW detonator is interposed between the firing system and the counter-explosive devices. The explosive force generated by the current invention attenuates the shockwave and deflects the shrapnel from the unexpected explosion. In various embodiments, this counter-explosive device can be adapted to protect a multiplicity of surface types including exterior vehicle surfaces, building facades, bridges, embassies and military checkpoints and guard stations.

  • Patent number: 6926427
Abstract: A process and apparatus reversibly converts an ellipsoidal stage lamp into a projector for projecting light with special effects onto a stage. The apparatus includes a replacement for the shutter section, which is a cabinet for disposition within the ellipsoidal stage lamp to replace the shutter section. The cabinet defines a first opening disposed along and around the optical axis of the ellipsoidal stage lamp and which is open to the base and lamp having a filament. The cabinet has one open side for permitting the sliding insertion of a drawer. The drawer, which is mountable to the cabinet, has a second opening disposed along and around the optical axis of the ellipsoidal stage lamp and open to the base and lamp when the drawer is inserted to the cabinet. A movable projector plane is mounted to the drawer across the second opening for insertion to the cabinet at the open side.

  • Patent number: 6616306
Abstract: A gobo having linear motion is inserted to the narrow iris slot of a conventional ellipsoidal stage light. The linear moving pattern includes a housing, a drive roller and a motor, a return roller, and an endless pattern loop. The housing has a narrowed end for protruding into the instrument at the iris slot and holding the return roller on one side of the light. The housing has a broad end for mounting outside of the ellipsoidal stage light for holding the drive roller and motor at the other side of the light. The broad end of the housing has two spring-biased hinged clamps for clamping the linear moving pattern into a single unitary linear moving pattern iris insert. A first motor clamp holds the drive roller and motor in place. A second pattern clamp tensions and dimensions the endless pattern loop for extension into and out of the iris slot of the ellipsoidal light. The endless pattern loop is first threaded to the return roller and the return roller mounted to the narrow end of the housing.
