  • Publication number: 20230285097
Abstract: A cannula includes a funnel portion and a tubular portion extending distally from the funnel portion. The tubular portion defines a longitudinal axis. An inner lumen extending through the tubular portion permits a medical instrument to be advanced or retracted through the tubular portion. A first visual indicator on the tubular portion is indicative of a first defined remote center of motion about which the tubular portion is pivotable by a robotic system, and a second visual indicator on the tubular portion and spaced apart axially from the first visual indicator is indicative of a second defined remote center of motion about which the tubular portion is pivotable by a robotic system.

  • Publication number: 20210244441
Abstract: A trocar assembly that includes a trocar and a seal cartridge configured to be releasably coupled to the trocar. The seal cartridge includes a top cap that includes a main body and a latch ring. The latch ring is grounded to the main body at a first angular position and has a latch located at a second angular position angularly offset from the first angular position. Applying a radial load on the latch causes the latch ring to flex in torsion at an intermediate portion that angularly interposes the first and second angular positions.

  • Publication number: 20210038258
Abstract: An integral seal system includes a body that defines a central opening, and an asymmetric seal extending into the central opening and including a diaphragm and an annular flange that extends between the body and the diaphragm, wherein the diaphragm has a cross-sectional thickness larger than a cross-sectional thickness of the annular flange. A duckbill seal extends distally from a bottom of the body and defines one or more parting lines that separate opposing seal flaps. The diaphragm complements insertion and extraction drag forces generated by the duckbill seal against a surgical tool shaft extended therethrough such that total insertion and extraction drag forces generated by the integral seal system are equalized.

  • Patent number: 10820924
Abstract: A trocar assembly includes a trocar that includes a trocar housing and a cannula that extends distally from the trocar housing, and an integral seal system positioned within a central passageway extending axially through the trocar and engageable against a surgical tool shaft extended therethrough. The integral seal system includes an asymmetric seal and a duckbill seal arranged distal to the asymmetric seal, and the asymmetric seal defines a diaphragm that complements insertion and extraction drag forces generated by the duckbill seal against the surgical tool shaft such that total insertion and extraction drag forces generated by the integral seal system are equalized.
