  • Patent number: 7906871
Abstract: A load module determines that a load of an electronic device is operating at a power level below a predetermined power threshold. The electronic device is configured to receive power simultaneously from two or more redundant power supplies. Each redundant power supply configured to receive input power from one or more power sources and configured to provide regulated output power to the load of the electronic device. A disconnection module disconnects at least one of the two or more redundant power supplies from the one or more power sources in response to the load module determining that the load of the electronic device is operating at a power level below the predetermined power threshold.

  • Patent number: 7096157
Abstract: There are many files in the current generation of computers, especially on the hardfile, that are not used or used only infrequently during operation. For instance, the system may contain many help text files which may never be accessed. The same applies to the DLL's. Also, some files are accessed only during a boot cycle. The present invention provides a method and program to track the locations of files in a computer which have been accessed so that, when an error occurs, only the files that need to be tested are diagnostically tested for errors, thus saving time and resources.

  • Patent number: 6161178
Abstract: A data processing system and method are disclosed for efficiently maintaining security during a booting of the system. The system includes a plurality of boot devices. One of a plurality of password requirements are specified separately for each of the plurality of boot devices. In response to an attempt to boot the system utilizing one of the plurality of boot devices, a determination is made regarding whether a first of the plurality of password requirements is specified for the one of the plurality of boot devices. In response to a determination that the first of the plurality of password requirements is specified for the one of said plurality of boot devices, a correct entry of a password is required prior to permitting the system to boot utilizing the one of the plurality of boot devices.

  • Patent number: 4632398
Abstract: Cartridges for a microcomputer have two adjacent edge connectors replaced by a single connector with a projection which passes into the area in which the adjacent connector would normally be placed. When the cartridge is inserted or removed from the connector socket in the microcomputer the projection transiently contacts the associated socket contact. A fixed potential (for example earth potential) normally applied to the main portion of the edge connector from its associated socket contact is therefore transferred to the transiently contacted socket contact to provide a reset signal for the microprocessor of the microcomputer. Thus, the microprocessor is reset each time a cartridge is inserted or withdrawn.
