  • Patent number: 9648945
Abstract: Various operational mode arrangements of an electric toothbrush (10) include pre-programming a controller portion (16) of the electric toothbrush such that a single brushing event of approximately two minutes comprises automatically at least two different operating modes and specified times for each mode. Another operational mode includes the capability of operating the on/off button (20) of the toothbrush within a specified short time following termination of a normal brushing event to provide the user a specified additional time, e.g. 30 seconds of toothbrush action. A special toothbrush interface arrangement includes a display (80) which encourages children to maintain brushing for the full brushing period. This is accomplished through sequential illustration of the progress of an article from an initial state to a final desired state as the toothbrush is used for increasing portions of a full brushing time period.

  • Publication number: 20160339218
Abstract: An applicator includes a roller, a treatment composition component, a cutaneous measurement component, and a controller. The roller contacts a portion of skin at a contact location and subsequently a target location. The treatment composition component selectively deposits a composition on a roller surface at a deposition location that is on the roller surface a circumferential distance away from the contact location. The cutaneous measurement component generates one or more parameters associated with the target location on the portion of skin. The target location is a target distance from the contact location that is equal to or greater than the circumferential distance. The controller controls the treatment composition component to selectively deposit the treatment composition on the roller surface in response to the one or more parameters associated with the target location on the portion of skin generated by the cutaneous measurement component.

  • Publication number: 20160339219
Abstract: An applicator for treating skin conditions includes at least one treatment composition component and a reflection edge component. The at least one treatment composition component is configured to selectively deposit a treatment composition at a deposit location on the portion of skin. The reflection edge component is operably coupled to an electromagnetic energy detector. The reflection edge component includes circuitry configured to monitor a level of the one or more parameters as the applicator traverses the portion of skin and to control the at least one treatment composition component to selectively deposit the treatment composition to the deposit location on the portion of skin based on one or more inputs indicative of a decrease in reflection of an electromagnetic energy interrogation stimulus from the portion of skin at the deposit location.

  • Publication number: 20160339220
Abstract: An applicator includes a discontinuity identification component and at least one treatment composition component. The discontinuity identification component is operably coupled to an electromagnetic energy interrogation component and the discontinuity identification component is configured to determine a treatment status based on an interrogation response to an electromagnetic energy stimulus indicative of an absorption difference of greater than a target amount. The at least one treatment composition component is operably coupled to the discontinuity component and the at least one treatment composition component is configured to selectively deposit a treatment composition on the portion of skin responsive to one or more inputs from the discontinuity component indicative of a target treatment status.

  • Publication number: 20160184162
Abstract: An applicator for use in treating a portion of skin includes an applicator tip that has an end configured to contact the portion of skin, a sonic source mechanically coupled to the applicator tip, a heat source thermally coupled to an end of the applicator tip, and a controller. The applicator tip includes a thermally-conductive material. During operation of the applicator, the controller controls operation of the sonic source to impart mechanical movements to the applicator tip at a sonic frequency and controls operation of the heat source to transfer heat to the end of the applicator tip via the thermally-conductive material of the applicator tip.

  • Patent number: 9320335
Abstract: Devices and/or methods for treating facial hair are provided in order to soften the feel thereof. The devices and/or methods generally alter the structure of the tips or ends of the hair follicles to enhance their feeling of softness. Some devices and methods employ a high speed impacting principle to split the ends of the hair follicles. Some devices and methods aim to reduce the thickness of hairs near the tips through abrasion. Some devices and/or methods employ both crushing/impacting and abrasion in order to soften the feel of a subject's facial hair.

  • Publication number: 20150182246
Abstract: Treatment protocols for preparing a subject's skin to receive skin formulations having one or more active materials are provided. The devices and/or methods for carrying out the treatment protocols aim to increase the skin's ability for skin formulations to penetrate or infuse into the SC layers thereof. The treatment protocol includes the application of shearing forces in order to part, tear, or form fissures only in the Stratum Corneum (SC) of the subject's skin without inducing trauma in viable skin layers below the SC. After application of shearing forces to the skin, a skin formulation can be applied to the sheared areas of skin.
