  • Publication number: 20240064887
Abstract: Employing undulator devices as x-ray radiation sources requires expensive and bulky support systems for operation, which are not robust and lead to limited ranges of generated radiation energies. A force-compensated undulator device is described. The device includes an undulator having first and second magnet arrays disposed along a central axis. The first magnet array is translatable along the central axis. The device further includes a compensator unit disposed adjacent to the first magnet array with the compensator unit having a first row of magnets disposed along a compensator axis with the compensator axis being parallel to the central axis, and a second row of magnets disposed along the compensator axis. The first row of magnets is translatable along the compensator axis. The compensator provides magnetic forces that neutralize the system dynamic magnetic forces generated by the undulator.

  • Patent number: 11222741
Abstract: A magnetic undulator shim having three interconnected sections arranged one after the other in a direction substantially parallel to the beam axis. The first section is adapted to magnetically engage a magnet having a horizontal surface and configured to extend partially onto the horizontal surface of the magnet. The magnet is adjacent to a pole and the magnet and the pole form a boundary. The second third sections are interconnected to form a shape. The shape corresponds to the boundary. The third section is adapted to magnetically engage a surface of the pole.

  • Patent number: 9355767
Abstract: A method and apparatus for implementing dynamic compensation of magnetic forces for undulators are provided. An undulator includes a respective set of magnet arrays, each attached to a strongback, and placed on horizontal slides and positioned parallel relative to each other with a predetermined gap. Magnetic forces are compensated by a set of compensation springs placed along the strongback. The compensation springs are conical springs having exponential-force characteristics that substantially match undulator magnetic forces independently of the predetermined gap. The conical springs are positioned along the length of the magnets.
