  • Publication number: 20070299277
Abstract: Disclosed are fluidizable catalysts comprising carbonized, polysulfonated vinylaromatic polymer particles. These carbonized polymer particles can be active catalysts by themselves or can act as supports for active catalyst components. These novel catalysts show excellent fluidization behavior over a wide range of gas velocities. Also disclosed are processes for making fluidizable catalysts, for fluidizing these catalysts, and for the preparation of carbonylation products with these catalysts.
    Type: Application
    Filed: September 12, 2007
    Publication date: December 27, 2007
    Applicant: EASTMAN CHEMICAL COMPANY
Inventors: Gerald Tustin, Joseph Zoeller, Richard Colberg
  • Publication number: 20060149094
Abstract: Pivaloylacetate esters (1) are a useful intermediates for producing chemicals for use in photographic and xerographic reproduction processes. Such esters can be generated by contacting chloropinacolone (2) with CO, an alcohol of formula R1OH, and a base in the presence of a catalyst comprising a source of palladium and certain coordinating trisubstituted phosphines of formula (R3)3P.
    Type: Application
    Filed: December 30, 2004
    Publication date: July 6, 2006
    Inventor: Joseph Zoeller
  • Publication number: 20060149095
Abstract: The present invention is a novel process for producing ?-ketoesters 1 by contacting an ?-chloroketone 2 with carbon monoxide and a hydroxyl-containing compound of formula R3OH in the presence of a base and a palladium carbene catalyst complex 3. The subject catalysts demonstrate superior rates and selectivity when compared to known (Ph3P)2PdCl2.

  • Publication number: 20030065217
Abstract: A vapor-phase carbonylation method for producing esters and carboxylic acids from reactants comprising lower alkyl alcohols, lower alkyl alcohol generating compounds, and mixtures thereof. The method includes contacting the reactants and carbon monoxide in a carbonylation zone of a carbonylation reactor under vapor-phase conditions with a catalyst having a catalytically effective amount of iridium and tin associated with a solid carrier material.
    Type: Application
    Filed: June 20, 2001
    Publication date: April 3, 2003
