  • Publication number: 20240355979
Abstract: Solid-state lighting devices including light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and more particularly LED packages with materials for reducing effects of environmental ingress are disclosed. Reactive materials are provided within LED packages that preferentially absorb environmental ingress away from other package elements, thereby extending operating lifetimes. Such reactive materials may be configured with redox potentials that are lower than the other package elements to more readily attract and react with environmental ingress that may enter LED packages under various operating environments. Arrangements of reactive materials are described relative to LED chips and corresponding electrical connections. Reactive materials may be formed as coatings, layers, pre-formed structures, and/or distributions of particles within LED packages.

  • Publication number: 20240349790
Abstract: An electronic device includes a hand held base assembly that includes circuitry including memory and firmware executed by a processor or microcontroller of the circuitry; and a cartridge assembly that includes memory that is read by the firmware of the handheld base assembly. The cartridge assembly and the handheld base assembly are configured to removably couple together to define the electronic device for producing an aerosol for inhalation by a person. An enclosed air passageway is defined by the cartridge assembly and by the handheld base assembly, which isolates the airflow from the electronics of the device. The enclosed air passageway extends between the opening of the mouthpiece for taking a breath and a diaphragm of the handheld base assembly, movement of the diaphragm changing the air pressure within an enclosed interior space having a pressure sensor for trigging the pressure sensor when a breath is taken.

  • Publication number: 20240354049
Abstract: The present invention enables a user to share his/her listening experience selectively with others without sharing headphones and without disturbing others who do not want to listen. In a preferred embodiment, a first listener can accomplish this by storing in a Portable Electronic Device or similar device a library of listening experiences, listening to one of the listening experiences, and while listening to that one listening experience streaming the one listening experience to at least one other Portable Electronic Device or similar device. A second listener at the other Portable Electronic Device can then listen to the same listening experience as the first listener at the same time. It is expected that the listening experiences will typically be songs or other music but the invention may be practiced with any type of audio content. The first listener may also create a playlist of the listening experiences in the library and make the playlist available to others.

  • Publication number: 20240356453
Abstract: An inductor or transformer for a switching power converter includes a primary coil and a secondary coil inside the air gap of the primary coil. A secondary core of the secondary coil is magnetized to saturation by a small current through the primary coil, such that the secondary coil produces a nonzero output voltage when the current through the primary coil crosses zero. The secondary coil may be used to detect a zero-current state of the primary coil and to actuate a switch to operate the converter in critical conduction mode (CCM) or other zero-current-triggered switching mode.

  • Publication number: 20240352875
Abstract: The present invention proposes methods and apparatus for improving the technology disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 3,225,538, U.S. Pat. No. 3,067,594, and U.S. Pat. No. 3,871,179, wherein are detailed techniques for creating a unique thermochemical cycle, termed the Bland/Ewing Cycle (B/E Cycle) after the co-inventors, involving “molecular expansion” and “molecular compression”. The advantage of the B/E Cycle is best exemplified in FIG. 3 and FIG. 4 of U.S. Pat. No. 3,225,538, where P/V and T/S charts indicate the potential for increased “power density”. This power density is a result of the reduced compression work following exothermic conversion of a single mole of gas relative to the increased expansion work following endothermic conversion of multiple moles of gas. The present invention improves power density and/or overall heat engine thermal efficiency by capturing otherwise-waste heat in the exhaust of a B/E Cycle heat engine.

  • Publication number: 20240354884
Abstract: Systems and methods for providing security to building occupants include a plurality of smart exit signs positioned at locations in or around a secure area to be monitored. Input devices contained in the smart exit signs are configured to be receptive to sensory activity within the secure area. The system further includes a master controller configured to analyze input signals indicative of the sensory activity detected within the secure area to determine whether a potential security issue exists. Output devices contained in the smart exit signs are configured to receive indication from the master controller when a potential security issue exists. In response to receiving indication from the master controller, the output devices are configured to assist occupants within the secure area to respond to the potential security issue by providing real-time information on optimum exit routes or shelter-in-place locations.

  • Publication number: 20240355189
Abstract: The invention provides a method for encouraging a user to perform an oral care routine using an oral care device for a predetermined period of time. The method includes recording a plurality of previous oral care sessions, the previous oral care sessions including at least one oral care session ending before the predetermined period of time has elapsed after the user has begun the oral care session. An oral care time characteristic is calculated based on the plurality of previous oral care sessions and, for a subsequent oral care session, a point in time after the user has begun performing an oral care routine is determined for providing the user with feedback based on the oral care time characteristic. The user is then provided with feedback at the determined point in time during the subsequent oral care session.
