  • Publication number: 20240285196
Abstract: Hypoxia-induced deoxy hemoglobin concentration ([dOHb]) may be used as a susceptibility contrast agent in subjects. While the maximal rate of generating blood [dOHb] are limited by constraints in pulmonary gas mixing, decreasing dOHb with reoxygenation of the lungs can be accomplished in one breath, resulting in a step reduction in arterial [dOHb] and thereby a step increase in cerebral BOLD signal recorded with MRI. The BOLD signal changes accompanying a step decrease in [dOHb] can be analyzed to calculate cerebral perfusion measures and compare their maps to those obtained using a bolus of a conventional contrast agent, gadolinium, and a conventional analysis requiring the identification of an arterial input function. The two methods provided comparable anatomically-distributed hemodynamic information.

  • Publication number: 20240285822
Abstract: A handheld light assembly for eradicating pathogens includes a housing. A processor and a lamp are disposed inside the housing. The lamp irradiates surfaces with disinfecting ultraviolet light having a peak wavelength of 222 nm filtered to restrict illumination to between 200 nm and 230 nm within an irradiation zone. A distance measuring system includes a secondary light source generating secondary light and a photodetector for measuring distance of the secondary light to a surface being irradiated by the lamp light being reflected from the surface to the photodetector. The secondary light source is offset at an angle from the lamp thereby projecting the light beam to a central area of the irradiation zone generated by the lamp. The photodetector signals the processor to calculate a vertical distance between the lamp and the central area of the irradiation zone on the surface being irradiated from an angular projection of the secondary light.

  • Publication number: 20240284903
Abstract: Materials composed of inorganic and organic compounds that inhibit, promote and stabilize nanostructured crystalline calcium carbonate for the recruitment and growth of oyster larvae and spat. By using simple chemical precursors in a bottom-up or top-down approach, a variety of layered material compositions can be obtained which result in a standalone material or one that can be applied to and supported by cementitious substrates. The chemical compounds and processes described in this invention are scalable, thus providing for manufacturing small or large quantities of tailored materials, utilizing a variety of techniques, such as but not limited to 3-D printing, spraying, molding and freeze casting to produce a broad spectrum of material compositions and forms suitable for a variety of oyster species and estuarine environments.

  • Publication number: 20240291942
Abstract: For high-performance “advanced imaging” applications, a synchronization signal (13), which is output by a playback device (14) or another data sink, such as a server application, is used to synchronize the chronological recording of an image stream (1) chronologically exactly with the playback of this image stream on the playback device and/or to synchronize the recording with an alternating illumination. Here, the synchronization signal (13) is used to trigger an image recording frequency of an image sensor (7) of an image recording system (23), by which the image stream is recorded. Furthermore, the synchronization signal can also be used to chronologically trigger a light source (21) of the image recording system, so that during the recording of the sequence of single images (2), an alternating illumination is obtainable, which is also synchronized with the recording of the single images and/or the image playback on the playback device.
