  • Patent number: 9598169
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to a single blade propeller and systems, devices, and techniques pertaining to assisting in critical stages of flight (e.g., takeoff, landing, emergency situations, etc.) in vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) aircraft. The single blade propeller may be incorporated into fixed and rotary wing VTOL aircraft as part of a first propulsion system. The first propulsion system may include one or more single blade propellers driven by electric motors, combustion engines, and/or hybrid engines. Each of the single blade propellers may include a lift-producing blade and a counterweight opposite the lift-producing blade. As each of the single blade propellers spins, it may produce lift in a direction approximately perpendicular to the horizon to effect vertical flight.

  • Publication number: 20160371346
Abstract: A machine implemented method, a processing device, and one or more non-transient machine-readable media are provided for analyzing multiple online social networks. The processing device may construct a master actor ontology in a light weight data-interchange format based on information received from the multiple online social networks. The constructed master actor ontology may include available characteristics identified from the received information, multiple derived graph characteristics, user behavior classifications, and an introversion/extroversion indicator for each of multiple actors. At least one logical expression representing at least one correlation of interest with respect to a graph or a subgraph of the master actor ontology may be input and automatically converted to a resource description framework query format. At least one query may be performed over the master actor ontology based on the converted at least one logical expression. At least one result of the at least one query may be provided.

  • Patent number: 9395287
Abstract: An integrated mobile test system and methods for characterizing in situ stress or strain/deflection—dependent stiffness and bearing capacity enables the testing of engineering properties of natural, compacted, stabilized, and reinforced soils and geo-materials. The mobile test system and associated methods (1) prepare the ground for testing and (2) apply static or cyclic loading to one or more bearing plates of various geometries positioned at the ground surface or below the ground surface to determine both stress and deflection dependent stiffness relationships and the bearing capacity of the soil or geo-material. Optionally, the mobile test system and associated methods (3) apply ground confining stress conditions independent of the bearing plate loading.

  • Publication number: 20160129998
Abstract: This disclosure describes a configuration of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) that will facilitate extended flight duration. The UAV may have any number of lifting motors. For example, the UAV may include four lifting motors (also known as a quad-copter), eight lifting motors (octo-copter), etc. Likewise, to improve the efficiency of horizontal flight, the UAV also includes a pushing motor and propeller assembly that is oriented at approximately ninety degrees to one or more of the lifting motors. When the UAV is moving horizontally, the pushing motor may be engaged and the pushing propeller will aid in the horizontal propulsion of the UAV.

  • Patent number: 9118712
Abstract: A computer network communication method and system wherein software rendering software is interposed in the data communication path between a browser running on a user computer and the internet data sources (for example, internet-accessible server computers) that the user browser wants to receive information from. The software rendering application gets data from internet data sources, but this data may contain malware. To provide enhanced security, the software rendering application renders this data to form a new browser readable code set (for example, an xml page with CSS layers), and this new and safe browser readable code set is sent along to the browser on the user computer for appropriate presentation to the user. As part of the rendering process, dedicated and distinct virtual machines may be used to render certain portion of the data, such as executable code. These virtual machines may be watched, and quickly destroyed if it is detected that they have encountered some type of malware.

  • Publication number: 20150190769
Abstract: A method and system are provided for preparing micro-ingredient feed additives for use in designated feed rations. A micro-ingredient system of the invention includes a plurality of bins that store designated micro-ingredients therein. A master controller of the delivery system provides signals to control system components based on programmed commands corresponding to micro-ingredient batches to be prepared. Slide gate mechanisms are used to prevent loss of micro-ingredients delivered to a receiving receptacle of the system. During delivery of the micro-ingredients to the receptacle and during processing, the micro-ingredients can become airborne and subsequently lost. The slide gate mechanisms also provide controlled access to the receiving receptacle to prevent system errors such as contamination of ingredients in the receptacle, or improper batching of a prescribed micro-ingredient mixture to be delivered to a designated feed ration.

  • Publication number: 20140073879
Abstract: A system is disclosed for long term, continuous, monitoring of pregnant mammals particularly to detect the onset of preterm labor. For example, the system enables communication between sensors and a collection unit for transmittal to a remote unit for display and monitoring of the collected data by a clinician while the individual is ambulatory and not in the presence of the clinician.

  • Patent number: 8265089
Abstract: A gateway and/or software for running on a gateway that communicates data units from a connection based network to a connectionless network, where the gateway uses at least some network protocol data from the connection based network in checking against a set of rules to determine whether some responsive reaction is appropriate. Preferably, the network protocol data from the connection based network is low level network protocol data (that is, physical layer and/or data link layer) that would otherwise be discarded by the gateway as the data was de-encapsulated and sent along to the receiving, connectionless network. Some possible responsive reactions include: selectively blocking data communication; slowing down selected data communications; sending responsive communications back to selected data sending machines; and/or alerting of network administrator(s).

  • Publication number: 20100318651
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a network communications system including a data communication path; a user communication device; a tapping device; and a rendering device. The user communications device (for example, a personal computer, a Blackberry type device) is structured, connected and/or programmed to receive web pages from the Internet over a data communication path. The tapping device is structured, located and/or connected to receive the communications and to send the network communication pages a rendering device. The tapping device and the rendering device are both separate from the user communications device. The rendering device converts the visual communications into corresponding bit maps. Preferably, the rendering device permanently stores the bit maps to a data storage device and/or displays the bit maps on a display device. In embodiments where the bit maps are permanently stored, the rendering device preferably compresses the bit maps.
