    Abstract: A surgical stapling instrument comprising a tissue cutting knife movable through a staple cartridge to perform a staple firing stroke is disclosed. The stapling instrument further comprises a lockout system configured to prevent the tissue cutting knife from being moved through the staple firing stroke if the staple cartridge is missing from the stapling instrument and/or if the staple cartridge has been previously fired. The lockout system comprises a flexible spring that acts on the bottom of the tissue cutting knife at the initiation of the staple firing stroke to push the tissue cutting knife into a lockout recess if the staple cartridge is missing or has been previously fired.

    Abstract: An impact tool having a front lubrication assembly. The front lubrication assembly includes a lubrication port, a lubrication passage and at least one lubrication channel that directs a lubricant injected from a front end of the impact tool directly into an impact assembly of the impact tool. The lubrication passage extends through an anvil assembly of the impact tool, along an axis of rotation of the impact drive mechanism. The at least one lubrication channel extends away from the lubrication passage and delivers the lubricant to at the impact mechanism. The front lubrication assembly is accessed on a front end of the impact tool. The anvil assembly may be a split anvil assembly having an external anvil portion and an external anvil portion.
