  • Patent number: 10811988
Abstract: Power management apparatuses and systems utilizing synchronous common coupling. A power management apparatus may include a plurality of ports and a plurality of electrically isolated stacks connected through a synchronous common coupling. Each electrically isolated stack may include a plurality of cascaded stages and may be connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports. The synchronous common coupling connects only power between each of the plurality of electrically isolated stacks and is configured to maintain electrical isolation for each of the plurality of stages in the plurality of electrically isolated stacks.

  • Patent number: 10608545
Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for managing power utilizing synchronous common coupling. An apparatus comprises a synchronous common coupling, a plurality of ports, and a plurality of stacks connected through the synchronous common coupling. Each stack comprises at least one stage, with each stage comprising at least one source/load bridge, at least one flux bridge, and a DC bus. The at least one source/load bridge of one stage of each stack is connected to a source or load through one of the plurality of ports, the at least one flux bridge of each stage is connected to an electrically isolated winding in the synchronous common coupling, and the at least one flux bridge of each stage is connected to the at least one source/load bridge of the stage through the DC bus. The synchronous common coupling is configured to exchange power between each of the plurality of stacks.

  • Publication number: 20180301980
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to power management apparatuses, systems, and methods utilizing a blocker stage. A power management apparatus may include a blocking string including a plurality of blocker stages connected in series, and each blocker stage may include at least one switch and at least one energy absorbing component. The apparatus may include a voltage/current monitor configured to monitor a power flow and generate current feedback and voltage feedback. The apparatus may further include a central controller coupled to the voltage/current monitor and configured to switch the energy absorbing components into or out of the power flow by synchronously turning the at least one switch of each of the plurality of blocker stages on or off based on the current feedback and the voltage feedback, where the plurality of blocker stages effectively act as a single blocking component.
