Patent number: 12222475Abstract: A rotationally shift invariant and multi-layered array system for full-field of view and/or photon collection by 4 pi steradian field of view. In the system, all of the incoming light (i.e., light from all directions), in a solid angle of 4 pi steradians, is focused inside the optics. The optics have a spherically shift invariant structure, providing rotational shift invariance. The system comprises a nontraditional use of the Gabor Superlen and is a configuration of multiple microlens array shell structures with concentrically arranged bulk optical components. Examples of such bulk optical components include Luneburg lenses, micro-structured surfaces, a single lens, a plurality of single lenses, ball lenses, metalenses, diffractive optical elements, and magnetic lenses. In an embodiment, the Gabor Superlens (i.e., microlens array) is planar. In an embodiment, no moving parts are required for the system to achieve truly full-field of view imaging and/or photon collection by 4 pi steradian field of view.Type: GrantFiled: April 26, 2019Date of Patent: February 11, 2025Assignee: ARIZONA BOARD OF REGENTS ON BEHALF OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONAInventors: Yuzuru Takashima, Brandon Hellman, Joshua Rodriguez

Publication number: 20240206931Abstract: A driver-specific back-out prevention mechanism is disclosed that includes a screw and a body. A first driver can be used for coupling and decoupling the screw with the body, and a second driver can only be used for adjusting the position of the screw in the receiving body. The body includes a cavity for receiving a head of the screw, with the cavity having an inward flange. The screw includes upper and lower sockets, with a channel extending though the head from the lower socket and a lock body disposed in the channel. Engagement with the first driver allows the locking body to move such that the fastener can be inserted and removed from the body. Engagement with the second driver displaces the locking body such that the locking body interferes with the flange such that screw fastener cannot be removed from the body by the second driver.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 7, 2024Publication date: June 27, 2024Inventors: Keanan R. Smith, Joshua Rodriguez, Raymond F. Murphy

Publication number: 20240110588Abstract: Bearing assemblies for selectively coupling to surgical instruments are disclosed. In one embodiment, a bearing assembly can include a housing with a cavity, a first race in the cavity that translates but does not rotate relative to the housing, bearing elements disposed in the first race that move radially in and out of a central passage of the first race, and a second race that is fixed in the cavity. The first race can be biased toward an opening of the cavity, the second race can surround the first race with an inner surface having a tapered diameter configured to contact the bearing elements as the first race moves distally relative to the second race and urge the plurality of bearing elements radially inward to selectively lock the bearing assembly to a surgical instrument disposed within the central passage of the first race.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 14, 2023Publication date: April 4, 2024Inventors: Cory Emil, Eric Biester, Joshua Rodriguez

Patent number: 11389209Abstract: Surgical plating systems, devices, and related methods for stabilizing and immobilizing portions of a body for surgical procedures, e.g., spinal surgery, are disclosed herein. The plating systems can have narrow profiles that minimize trauma to the patient. An exemplary bone plating system can include a bone plate having one or more holes for receiving attachment members to couple the bone plate to a bony structure. The plating system can provide multipoint fixation to anatomical structures of the patient to prevent unwanted migration of the bone plate and/or unintentional back-out of the attachment members. In some embodiments, the attachment members can be disposed at various trajectories and angles relative to plating structures and can include a mesh construct and/or additional locking features. In some embodiments, the plating system can be introduced into the patient via an access tube to further limit the invasiveness of the procedure.Type: GrantFiled: July 19, 2019Date of Patent: July 19, 2022Assignee: Medos International SarlInventors: Albert Montello, William Miller, Joshua Rodriguez, Kevin Lee, Veronique Christine Zollmann, Laura Wilson, Roger Berger, Hyun Bae, Michael Jeger

Publication number: 20210231781Abstract: A LiDAR system that uses a MEMS-based scanning mirror that reflects pulsed light generated by a laser. The scanning mirror reflects the light through a lens system which collimates the light and allows its transmission to a digital micromirror device that steers the light to different locations corresponding to different orders towards an object to be detected. A photodiode, operational amplifier, timing chip and processing device then receive and process the light signal and generate a control sequence to synchronize timing of movement of the MEMS-based scanning mirror and the digital micro mirror device.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2019Publication date: July 29, 2021Applicant: Arizona Board of Regents on Behalf of the University of ArizonaInventors: Yuzuru Takashima, Brandon Hellman, Joshua Rodriguez, Yongsik Kim
