  • Patent number: 10132216
Abstract: A housing of a compressor for an internal combustion engine is provided. The housing includes a first air inlet portion. Further, housing includes a tubular wall defining an annular chamber along a circumference of the first air inlet portion. Tubular wall comprising a second air inlet portion. Housing further includes an opening formed in a wall of first air inlet portion, contiguously extending along the circumference of the first air inlet portion, to fluidly couple the annular chamber with the first air inlet portion. The opening being formed at an offset from the second air inlet portion. The opening defines a first edge and a second edge in the wall of the first air inlet portion. The first edge and the second edge are radially offset from each other with respect to a central axis of the first air inlet portion.

  • Patent number: 9181855
Abstract: A turbocharger is disclosed for use with an engine. The turbocharger may include a housing at least partially defining a compressor shroud and a turbine shroud. The turbine shroud may form a volute having an inlet configured to receive exhaust from an exhaust manifold of the engine in a tangential direction. The volute may also include an axial channel disposed downstream of the inlet. The turbocharger may also include a turbine wheel disposed within the turbine shroud that may be configured to receive exhaust from the axial channel. The turbocharger may also include a compressor wheel disposed within the compressor shroud, and a shaft connecting the turbine wheel to the compressor wheel. The turbocharger may also include a nozzle ring disposed within the axial channel at a location upstream of the turbine wheel.

  • Publication number: 20140305414
Abstract: Housing for cooling air prior to introduction to an engine is provided. The housing includes a cooling chamber and an inlet chamber fluidically connected to the cooling chamber. The cooling chamber includes four side walls, a top wall and a bottom wall. The inlet chamber includes a top surface laterally extending from the top wall of the cooling chamber and an inlet disposed on the top surface. The inlet is configured to direct the air in a first direction. Further, the inlet chamber includes a bottom surface laterally extending from a side wall of the cooling chamber and disposed substantially perpendicular to the first direction at a predetermined distance from the top surface of the inlet chamber. The bottom surface is configured to turn the fluid in a second direction substantially perpendicular to the first direction prior to entering into the cooling chamber.

  • Patent number: 8171924
Abstract: A method of selectively directing a flow of blow-by gas (F) in a vehicle having an engine (14) and a turbocharger compressor (32) includes the steps of providing fluid communication for the flow of blow-by gas from the engine to a valve (12), actuating the valve with a valve actuator (38) to at least one of a closed system position and an open system position, and selectively directing the flow of blow-by gas from the valve to at least one of the turbocharger compressor and an atmosphere (28).
