Patent number: 12146834Abstract: In an embodiment, a bloom engine is created that can detect the formation of both fat bloom and sugar bloom in a chocolate product. A Raman spectrometer is used to generate a first or reference spectrum of a chocolate product. Based on peaks of the spectrum known to be associated with sugar and peaks of the spectrum known to be associated with fat, a ratio of sugar to fat for the chocolate product is determined based on the reference spectrum. Later, a second spectrum is generated from the chocolate product, and a ratio of sugar to fat is similarly determined for the second spectrum. Changes in the ratios between the two samples are used to detect fat or sugar bloom. Other features of the bloom engine including removing or reducing bloom from the chocolate product using a laser associated with the spectrometer and applying a design to the chocolate product in bloom using the laser.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2022Date of Patent: November 19, 2024Assignee: University of South FloridaInventors: Joshua Stewart Heuler, Siyu He, Sharad Ambardar, Dmitri V. Publication number: 20240374084Abstract: A spice mill includes a main body with an internal cavity and a cap removably coupled to the main body to selectively provide access to the internal cavity. A drive shaft extends at least partially through the main body, with the cap transferring rotational motion to the drive shaft. A first grind stone is coupled to the main body and a second grind stone is coupled to the drive shaft. An adjuster assembly is at least partially received in the second grind stone to vary a size of a gap between the first and second grind stones. The second grind stone rotates relative to the first grind stone to grind a material received from the main body and output the ground material through the gap on sides of the spice mill.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2024Publication date: November 14, 2024Inventors: David HOLCOMB, Joshua STEWART

Publication number: 20240303711Abstract: A system, for example, an online system uses a machine learning based language model, for example, a large language model (LLM) to process high-level natural language queries received from users. The system receives a natural language query from a user of a client device. The system determines contextual information associated with the query. Based on this information, the system generates a prompt for the machine learning based language model. The system receives a response from the machine learning based language model. The system uses the response to generate a search query for a database. The system obtains results returned by the database in response to the search query and provides them to the user. The system allows users to specify high level natural language queries to obtain relevant search results, thereby improving the overall user experience.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 5, 2024Publication date: September 12, 2024Inventors: Li Tan, Tejaswi Tenneti, Shishir Kumar Prasad, Huapu Pan, Allan Stewart, Taesik Na, Tyler Russell Tate, Joshua Roberts, Haixun Wang

Publication number: 20230237207Abstract: A computer-implemented method includes receiving, in computer memory, a first test data set that comprises results of a real-world test of a material, where the first test data set comprises a plurality of test data points. The method further includes identifying one or more critical points among the test data points in the first test data set and processing the first test data set with a computer processor to produce a second test data set with differing (e.g., fewer) test data points than the first test data set, wherein the second test data set includes all the test data points that were identified as critical points in the first test data set and at least some other data points.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2022Publication date: July 27, 2023Inventors: Wesley McLendon, Joshua Stewart

Publication number: 20230201662Abstract: Techniques for rewarding users based primarily on performance scores as obtained during play of an application and based secondarily on health metric data (“HMD”) obtained from performing exercise are disclosed. A baseline or minimum exercise requirement is established, where this requirement is generally achievable regardless of one's initial health status. Satisfaction of that baseline exercise requirement then unlocks a user's ability to engage with an application, which generally challenges the user's non-physical abilities. The user's performance in that application is then the deciding factor as to who wins a reward program. Because the exercise aspect is designed to be generally achievable for most if not all users, those users are now equally encouraged or incentivized to participate in the exercise reward program because the determination of who will win is now separated from a user's health status.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 27, 2022Publication date: June 29, 2023Inventor: Joshua Stewart Terry
