Patent number: 9904148Abstract: A swivel mount locking apparatus is configured to mount a camera system onto a target user, an object, or a surface. The camera system is mounted on a swivel component which can be rotated to a variety of different positions relative to a base component. To fix the camera position, a locking protrusion of a release lever in the base component is compressibly inserted into a detent located on the swivel component. When a new orientation of the camera system is desired, a user may forcibly pivot the release lever away from the swivel component to decouple the locking protrusion from the detent. The user can then rotate the mounted camera system and the swivel component to the new orientation relative to the base component. At the new orientation, the user may recouple the locking protrusion of the release lever into a different detent of the swivel component, thereby fixing the camera system into the desired, new orientation.Type: GrantFiled: August 29, 2016Date of Patent: February 27, 2018Assignee: GoPro, Inc.Inventors: Joshua Todd Druker, Christopher Aaron Clearman

Patent number: 9874308Abstract: Disclosed is an electronic gimbal with camera and mounting configuration. The gimbal can include an inertial measurement unit which can sense the orientation of the camera and three electronic motors which can manipulate the orientation of the camera. The gimbal can be removably coupled to a variety of mount platforms, such as an aerial vehicle, a handheld grip, or a rotating platform. Moreover, a camera can be removably coupled to the gimbal and can be held in a removable camera frame. Also disclosed is a system for allowing the platform, to which the gimbal is mounted, to control settings of the camera or to trigger actions on the camera, such as taking a picture, or initiating the recording of a video. The gimbal can also provide a connection between the camera and the mount platform, such that the mount platform receives images and video content from the camera.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2016Date of Patent: January 23, 2018Assignee: GoPro, Inc.Inventors: Noriaki Saika, Ryan Harrison, Joshua Todd Druker, Himay Rashmikant Shukla, Nenad Uzunovic, Edward Gordon Russell, Gary Fong

Patent number: 9829772Abstract: A camera helmet mount can removably secure a camera to a helmet via three attachment points, each of which may be a vent hole, a portion of a face mask, or an edge of the helmet. The camera helmet mount may include a main base that couples with a portion of a camera mount, a rear strap, two main arms, and two optional extension arms. The rear strap and two main arms may have hooks at their distal ends opposite the main base that are secured to the three attachment points. The rear strap can be looped through a rear strap fastener of the main base and secured to itself via a strap clip. The main arms may be removably secured to the main base and can be lengthened by installing extension arms and attaching the hooks of the main arms to the other end of the extension arms.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2016Date of Patent: November 28, 2017Assignee: GoPro, Inc.Inventors: Ryan Harrison, Joshua Todd Druker

Patent number: 9612507Abstract: A camera mountable arm includes a first segment, a second segment, and a third segment. The first segment includes a recess extending substantially along a length of the first segment, and is configured to detachably couple to a camera. The first segment is rotatably coupled to the second segment and the second segment is rotatably coupled to the third segment. The arm is operable in a plurality of positions, including: a folded position, where the first, second, and third segments are aligned to be mutually length-wise parallel such that the second segment is enclosed within the recess along the first segment, and the first and second segments are substantially flush with the third segment; and an outstretched position, where the first and second segments are separated by a first angular displacement and the second and third segments by a second angular displacement.Type: GrantFiled: May 16, 2016Date of Patent: April 4, 2017Assignee: GoPro, Inc.Inventors: Nicholas D. Patent number: 9507245Abstract: Various camera mounts used to attach a camera to a helmet, vehicle, user, or other object are described. In one embodiment, a flexible camera mount deforms under impact, allowing an attached camera to detach without fracturing the mount. In a second embodiment, a non-flexible camera mount fractures under impact, allowing an attached camera to detach. In a third embodiment, a camera mount comprising a ring base and a floating base separates under impact, allowing a camera attached to the floating base to detach. In a fourth embodiment, a non-flexible camera mount including two rigid sections joined in a āVā shape fractures under impact, allowing the camera to detach. In a fifth embodiment, a flexible camera mount comprising two sections connected in a āVā shape separate under impact, allowing the camera to detach.Type: GrantFiled: May 26, 2016Date of Patent: November 29, 2016Assignee: GoPro, Inc.Inventors: Joshua Todd Druker, Christopher Aaron Clearman, Eric McCallister Bennett

Patent number: 9498093Abstract: A soap holding bathing assistance device for holds and dispenses soap from a container usable to scrub a person when bathing includes a container having a closed end and a peripheral wall extending from the closed end defining an interior space of the container. The container has an open end opposite the closed end wherein the container is configured for receiving soap into the interior space of the container. The container is constructed of an absorptive material wherein the container is configured for applying soap to a bather. An exterior surface of the container is abrasive wherein the container is configured for removing dead skin as the container is used to apply soap to the bather. A closure inhibits the soap from passing through the open end of the container.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 2014Date of Patent: November 22, 2016Inventor: Joshua Todd
