  • Patent number: 10470321
Abstract: An emissive display assembly including an emissive display, a circuit board associated with the emissive display element, a display chassis, and a support plate. The display chassis may house the emissive display element. The display chassis may further house the circuit board. The display chassis may have an aperture such that a front side of the emissive display element is viewable through the aperture. The support plate may be held in place by the display chassis and positioned between the emissive display element and the circuit board. The support plate may support a back side of the emissive display element such that, when a compressive force is applied to the front side of the emissive display element, the support plate restricts the emissive display element from bending more than a predetermined bending threshold.

  • Patent number: 10342150
Abstract: A magnetically latched installation and extraction mechanism for an avionics display unit or other Line Replaceable Unit (LRU) installable in, and extractable from, a vehicle instrument panel includes a bezel attachable to the LRU, the paddle or the bezel including magnets embedded into opposing corners configured to attract the magnetic surfaces of, or the embedded magnets in, the opposing bezel or paddle. The LRU may include hinged paddles having an open position for installing/extracting the LRU from the instrument panel and a stowed position substantially flush with the surface of the bezel, the paddles corresponding to the embedded bezel magnets. Magnets embedded in the hinged paddles may secure the paddles in the stowed position via attraction to the bezel magnets.

  • Patent number: 10278312
Abstract: An LED display package includes an LED display assembly, processing and graphics electronics, an LED heatsink, and a thermal isolation component. The LED display assembly includes a plurality of LEDs. The processing and graphics electronics are configured to drive the LED display assembly. The LED heatsink thermally contacts the LED display assembly, and is disposed between the LED display assembly and the processing and graphics electronics. The thermal isolation component is between the LED heatsink and the processing and graphics electronics and is arranged to thermally isolate the processing and graphics electronics from the LED heatsink.

  • Patent number: 8876326
Abstract: A night vision compatible edge-light is disclosed. The edge-light may include high efficiency white LEDs alternated with filtered multi-die or compact clustered color LEDs to provide a dual-mode configuration. For example, the filtered color LED modules may be energized in order to provide a night vision compatible mode of operation. That is, the filtered color LED modules may provide illumination so that the display is not only visible to unaided eyes, but also compatible with night vision equipment (e.g., night vision goggles) without adversely affecting the operation of the night vision equipment. On the other hand, the unfiltered white LED modules may be energized to provide illumination suitable for relatively bright operation conditions (e.g., in daylight or when sufficient ambient lights are available). Furthermore, both the white LEDs and the color LEDs may be energized simultaneously to enhance the day mode if so desired.

  • Patent number: 8827527
Abstract: A multimode edge-light configured for providing reduced depth and improved multimode edge uniformity is provided. The multimode edge-light may be suitable for sun light readability and use with night vision goggles. The multimode edge-light includes a support base and a first and second set of light-emitting diode (LED) modules electronically connected to the support base. The first set of LED modules is positioned adjacent to the light guide, and the second set of LED modules is positioned separate from the light guide. The multimode edge-light also includes an infrared filter configured for filtering light from only the second set of LED modules positioned on a surface of the support base. In operation of the multimode edge-light, at least a portion of the first set of LED modules and at least a portion of the second set of LED modules are selectively energized for providing a plurality of operation modes.

  • Patent number: 8814416
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a broad color space LED edgelight. The edgelight may implement high efficiency white LEDs and multi-color LED assemblies, wherein the white LEDs and multi-color LED assemblies may be configured in an alternating arrangement on the edgelight strip. The edgelight embodiments disclosed herein may provide good edge uniformity and improved broad color space performance.

  • Patent number: 8628206
Abstract: A night vision compatible backlight is disclosed. The backlight may include a base layer and a spacer layer. The spacer layer defines a plurality of arrays of openings, each includes a first set of openings and a second set of openings alternately distributed along the array. The backlight also includes a first set of LED modules electronically connected to the base layer through the first set of openings and a second set of LED modules electronically connected to the base layer through the second set of openings. The backlight further includes a filtering layer for providing infrared filtering for the second set of LED modules. The first set of LED modules and the second set of LED modules may be selectively energized to provide: a first mode where the first set of LED modules are energized, and a second mode where only the second set of LED modules are energized.

  • Patent number: 8232492
Abstract: A keypanel assembly includes a light-emitting diode (LED) attached to a substrate. A switch is attached to the substrate. A control button is configured to actuate the switch. The control button permits light from the LED to pass through the control button to an outer surface of the control button to illuminate control symbology disposed thereon. An isolating structure ensures light emitted by the LED only illuminates the control symbology on the control button.

  • Patent number: 7924371
Abstract: A multimode display for night vision imaging system (NVIS) compatible operation including a display assembly including a display subassembly having a display component; and, a backlight printed wiring board (PWB) assembly positioned behind the display subassembly. The backlight printed wiring board (PWB) assembly includes a printed wiring board (PWB). A top side mounted LED array is mounted on a first side of the printed wiring board (PWB) including a top side plurality of LEDs including a top side set of white LEDs. A reverse-mounted LED array is mounted on a second side of the printed wiring board (PWB) including a reverse-mounted plurality of LEDs including a reverse-mounted set of white LEDs. A dedicated primary IR filtering means is operatively associated with the reverse-mounted LED array for conditioning light emitted from the reverse-mounted LED array for NVIS compatible operation. In a day mode of operation the forward-side mounted LED array illuminates the display subassembly.
