    Abstract: Techniques for sharing data between modules and techniques for implementing user-mode context switching are provided to produce a scheduling system that can be used for media transcoding, for example. An application is provided with control to modify its scheduling policy to take advantage of application-specific knowledge, which increases the data locality of scheduled tasks. Context switches are made during user mode and without having to switch to kernel mode.
