  • Patent number: 9376348
Abstract: A process for obtaining granules for manufacturing a silicon carbide based sintered product, includes a) mixing a powder of silicon carbide SiC particles, whose average diameter d50 is at least about 2 micrometers with a powder of a boron compound particles, whose average diameter d50 is at least about 2 micrometers, the SiC particles content being more than 90% by weight of the powder mixture; b) co-milling the powder mixture until the overall average diameter d50 of the resulting particles is between 0.3 and 1 micrometers; c) chemically treating the powder mixture by base solution and acid wash; d) mixing the powder mixture of c) with 1 to 10% by weight, based upon the silicon carbide content, of a carbon containing resin having a water miscibility of more than 10:50, as measured according to the ISO8989 standard, and e) spray-drying the resulting mixture of d), to generate the granules.

  • Patent number: 8303889
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for fabrication of a porous refractory ceramic product made from SiC, by heat treatment and sintering at high temperature, starting from a fraction of fine particles of SiC and from a fraction of larger-sized particles of SiC, said process being characterized in that, in a step preliminary to the heat treatment and to the sintering at high temperature, the finest particles of SiC are agglomerated then, in a second step, the granules thus obtained are added to the SiC powder with particles of larger size. The invention also relates to a porous body made from recrystallized SiC in an essentially ? form, in particular a particulate filter for automobile application, obtained by such a process.

  • Patent number: 8002861
Abstract: Abrasive grain powder, in particular intended for machining silicon ingots, such that the granulometric fraction D40-D60 comprises more than 15% and less than 80%, as percentages by volume, of grains having circularity of less than 0.85.

  • Publication number: 20110171099
Abstract: The invention relates to a process for obtaining a porous material made of recrystallized SiC, especially in the form of a structure for filtering a particulate-laden gas, starting from at least two powders of fine and coarse SiC particles, blended with an organic material comprising an organic pore former and/or a binder, in suitable proportions and in the presence of a sufficient amount of a solvent, such as water, so as to allow forming of said blend and firing thereof between 1600° C. and 2400° C., said process being characterized in that the difference between the percentile d90 of the coarse particle powder and the percentile d10 of the fine particle powder multiplied by the volume of organic material in the initial blend, expressed as a percentage relative to the total volume of the SiC particles, is between 250 and 1500. The invention also relates to the porous material made of recrystallized SiC that can be obtained by said process.
